Imu is the most powerful character in One Piece, and has been secretly ruling the world since the distant past, known as the Void Century. Their power is unmatched – even the leaders of the World Government, the Gorosei, can’t challenge them. Imu possesses a range of mysterious and incredibly strong abilities, including transforming into a monstrous form, teleporting, and controlling others.
Imu possesses incredible power, making them a formidable threat – even the mighty Rocks pirates couldn’t fully overcome them. Anyone who faced Imu felt utterly powerless. Yet, a small number of brave fighters did survive encounters with Imu, and these individuals were among the strongest people of their time.
8. Whitebeard

The God Valley incident was an incredibly chaotic event, bringing together many of the most powerful figures of the time, including Whitebeard. During the brutal competition known as the Native Hunting Game, Imu unexpectedly appeared, causing a massive shockwave across the island. Despite being surprised, the assembled pirates launched a combined assault on Imu, but their attacks barely made an impact. Whitebeard later faced Imu again with his crew, and remarkably, he managed to survive the battle and continue his adventures.
7. Kaido
- Encountered Imu: God Valley Incident
When Kaido was younger, he sailed with the Rocks Pirates and saw firsthand how powerful Imu was. During this time, Kaido wanted a Devil Fruit and managed to obtain the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu. He fought alongside the Rocks Pirates, even against Imu. However, after Imu took control of the Rocks Pirates, Kaido was defeated with a single blow. Everyone believed that was the end for him, but somehow, he miraculously survived.
6. Straw Hat Pirates

When the Straw Hats reached Elbaf, they faced Imu, who demonstrated overwhelming and frightening power. Despite their efforts to fight back, Imu easily surpassed them in every way, highlighting just how much stronger their enemies could be and exposing the crew’s own limitations.

Despite a strong effort, the Straw Hats needed rescuing, and the Giants, Dorry and Brogy, bravely stepped in to protect them from Imu. Sadly, Dorry and Brogy were captured by Imu, who continues to cause destruction in Elbaf, while Luffy and Loki now try to intervene.
5. Sabo

Sabo played a crucial role towards the story’s climax, and was among the first to encounter Imu. He directly witnessed Imu’s confrontation with King Cobra regarding his family history, and was stunned to see someone occupying the Empty Throne. Sabo held back to collect information, but bravely intervened when Cobra was threatened. Although he couldn’t save Cobra, Cobra’s sacrifice allowed Sabo to survive and provided the Revolutionary Army with a major discovery, helping them prepare for the final conflict.
4. Big Mom

Big Mom joined the battle at God Valley hoping to win powerful Devil Fruits, which were the prize for the victor. There, she encountered Imu, who was secretly leading the Rocks Pirates. The confrontation wasn’t a long battle; Big Mom attempted to use her Conqueror’s Haki, but Rocks quickly defeated her with a single punch, knocking her out. It’s still a mystery how she managed to leave the island without Imu noticing.
3. Gol D. Roger
- Encountered Imu: God Valley Incident
The Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, frequently faced incredible danger throughout his life. One of his most famous battles was the God Valley Incident, where he rescued Shakky. During this fight, he clashed with powerful enemies and joined forces with Garp to defeat Rocks Xebec, who surprisingly asked them to end his life. It was a brutal battle, but Roger and Garp were victorious, granting Xebec’s final request. They were then rescued from the pursuing Holy Knights by Rayleigh and Gaban.
2. Loki
- Encountered Imu: Elbaf Arc
Loki faced a difficult childhood, feeling unwanted even by his own mother. Despite this, he rose to become a key figure, notably being one of the few to ever defeat a Holy Knight, and played a vital role in the story’s final chapters.
Fourteen years ago, Harald instructed Loki to consume the famed Devil Fruit of Elbaf, which Loki immediately did. This gave Loki the power to easily defeat Harald, who was being controlled by Imu, making him one of the few to survive a confrontation linked to Imu. Later, Loki directly battled Imu in Elbaf and managed to freeze them.
1. Monkey D. Garp
- Encountered Imu: God Valley Incident
Garp went to God Valley intending to arrest Roger, but things changed when Imu showed up. After Imu transformed Rocks into a monstrous being, Roger and Garp temporarily stopped fighting each other and joined forces to defeat this new, powerful enemy.
The fight was brutal, completely exhausting them. They were so drained they couldn’t even stand, and had to be carried to safety by Rayleigh and Gaban.
