  • The patch upgrades Spider-Man 2’s PC port to DirectStorage 1.2.3, which should remove stuttering during traversal.

The developers Insomniac Games and Nixxes have released an update called Patch 5 for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC. This update includes improvements in performance, graphics, and fixes for key issues that were reported by players of the PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

In October 2023, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was first released exclusively for PS5. However, it wasn’t until January 30, 2025 that it arrived on PC. On paper, the PC version appeared to be a technical marvel with advanced ray-tracing effects and DirectStorage support. But after its release, players encountered several problems. Issues like poor optimization, choppy movement during swinging action, incorrect upscaling, game crashes, and overall instability were reported by many PC users.

In a recent update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC, developers Insomniac and Nixxes have rolled out Patch 5. One of the significant changes in this update is the upgrade to DirectStorage 1.2.3, which should help reduce stuttering during movement (traversal). Previously, the game’s use of GPU decompression for DirectStorage caused issues for players with GPUs having less than 8GB of VRAM. However, it seems that this issue has been addressed in the latest update for Spider-Man 2 on PC. Furthermore, the patch also aims to enhance performance when playing as Venom, battling Symbiote enemies, and related in-game cinematics.

The most recent update for the PC version of “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” enhances the Nvidia DLSS Ray Reconstruction feature, leading to a reduction in shadow noise and an improvement in ray-traced ambient occlusion and reflections. This update not only boosts performance but also tackles several user interface concerns that were prevalent on PC. For instance, during Prowler side quests when frame generation and upscaling are active, some UI elements would fail to load properly. Additionally, the Hunter Blinds minigame now correctly displays controls on PC, and issues related to mouse and keyboard input in Photo Mode have been rectified as well.

I’m thrilled to say that the improvements in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, especially with the updates, have been a game-changer on PC. Many of us players are in agreement. The performance enhancements in Update 5, in particular, have sparked curiosity among PC gamers, and early feedback suggests it’s off to a great start. Here’s hoping that Insomniac and Nixxes keep refining and adjusting the game based on player input for Spider-Man 2’s PC version.
