As a seasoned researcher with years of experience in the dynamic world of cryptocurrencies, I find the recent discussion surrounding Dogecoin’s presence in Tesla’s payment infrastructure intriguing. My personal journey in this field began during the early days of Bitcoin, and I must admit, the rise of meme coins like DOGE has added a unique flavor to our industry.
Supporters of Dogecoin have sparked conversations about its future on social media platform X, following an interesting observation made by KrissPax, a Dogecoin supporter. This observation reveals that Dogecoin (DOGE) is the only cryptocurrency integrated into the payment system for Tesla’s Cybertruck and Model 3 vehicles at present. This intriguing fact aligns with the optimistic outlook towards DOGE and whispers about Tesla potentially accepting Dogecoin as a form of payment in the future.
Dogecoin Code In Tesla’s Payment: A Long-Standing Detail Revisited
As a researcher, I’ve been observing the development in Tesla’s payment system, and the recent resurgence in their interest towards Dogecoin has certainly caught my eye. Interestingly enough, this shift occurs concurrently with a significant price adjustment for the popular meme-based cryptocurrency, Dogecoin.
In October 2023, there were rumors that the code for Tesla’s Cybertruck checkout page contained references to DOGE, and crypto expert MartyParty found more than 50 instances of Dogecoin in the source code.
Nevertheless, the revived curiosity originates from a recent post by Dogecoin supporter KrissPax on social media platform X. In his post, he pointed out the existence of a DOGE code within Tesla’s payment system, suggesting:
Here’s a friendly reminder: Dogecoin is the only cryptocurrency currently supported in the payment options for both the Cybertruck and Model 3 by Tesla. They haven’t activated it yet, but once they do, you’ll be ready!
Despite the fact that Tesla’s Cybertruck was introduced this year, the Dogecoin payment option hasn’t become active as of now. However, the existence of the feature within the code indicates that Tesla might be considering enabling Dogecoin transactions down the line.
What Does This Mean For DOGE?
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has consistently advocated for Dogecoin, often highlighting its potential for everyday transactions. His backing for DOGE can be seen in various public statements, one example being Tesla’s move in January 2022 to accept Dogecoin as a payment option for certain merchandise. This step added practical value to Dogecoin, a digital currency that is well-known for its connection to internet memes.
Integrating DOGE as a payment option for Tesla cars could mark a significant milestone in the expansion of Dogecoin’s practical application. Such a move would not only accelerate its adoption but also create new avenues for investment, potentially boosting its price trajectory. Moreover, if successful, other companies might adopt DOGE as a payment method as well.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first instance of Tesla accepting cryptocurrency for its vehicles. In fact, in 2021, they began allowing customers to pay with Bitcoin. But their experiment with Bitcoin payments was temporary, as they halted this option due to environmental worries surrounding the increasing energy usage associated with Bitcoin mining and transactions.
Currently, as I’m typing this, the value of a Dogecoin is being exchanged for approximately $0.3842. Over the last 24 hours, its price has decreased by 0.92% and over the past week, it has dropped by 1.69%.
