According to a recent report, Epic Games is collaborating with Disney on a new shooting game similar to ARC Raiders. The report suggests players might get a chance to play it soon, though some details are still unknown.
In 2024, Disney invested $1.5 billion in Epic Games, generating significant buzz. Although Disney has previously collaborated on games, including the popular Disney Dreamlight Valley, this partnership is seen as their most substantial move into the gaming world. Disney’s CEO stated their goal is to create a completely new and innovative game and entertainment experience. After two years, more information about the projects Epic and Disney are developing together is starting to emerge.
Disney and Epic Extraction Shooter Underway
Disney and Epic Games may release a new game as soon as November, according to a recent Bloomberg report. Four people familiar with the project – current and former employees – shared this information. The game is expected to be similar to ARC Raiders, where players control Disney characters and fight to reach an escape point. Details are still scarce, including which characters will be playable and what enemies players will encounter. It’s currently unknown whether this will be a separate game or integrated into Fortnite.
The report also suggested some additional details. Apparently, internal reviews of the *ARC Raidersstyle shooter criticized it for lacking originality, though others believe Epic Games can improve it before release. Besides this shooter, Epic Games’ deal with Disney includes plans for two more games. One of those games reportedly received average internal reviews, prompting some staff to be moved from the third game to help improve it. Epic Games responded to these claims with a statement, saying they’re aiming to create a new and ambitious gaming universe with Disney experiences and that the reports don’t reflect their goals.
Disney has made a significant investment, so this collaboration with Epic Games is crucial. The upcoming Disney game is expected to be a major event for Epic, which has faced challenges lately. Earlier this year, Epic Games laid off approximately 1,000 employees, including the creator of the popular character Jonesy, and a team member battling cancer. Following these cuts, the company also announced it would be removing three game modes from Fortnite.
