There are a lot of realistic military shooters available, but sometimes it’s fun to switch things up and play something incredibly fast-paced. Instead of carefully taking cover and shooting slowly, why not try a game where staying still is the biggest mistake you can make?
The following first-person shooters focus on pure, adrenaline-fueled action. They’re designed to make you feel incredibly powerful as you play, prioritizing speed and excitement over realistic detail. While they might not have the complex levels or strategic gameplay of newer Call of Duty titles, these games deliver fast-paced combat, over-the-top weapons, and a huge sense of accomplishment from completing levels with flair.

Neon White
Quick, Addictive Levels Built For Speedrunning
Neon White isn’t just about moving fast; it requires accurate movements too. This blend of speed and precision is what makes this fast-paced shooter so unique, and it’s built around the idea of speedrunning. But don’t worry, you don’t need to be an expert speedrunner to enjoy it! Neon White is designed to make anyone feel like they can beat games incredibly quickly and powerfully.
Every level is a short, fast-paced challenge where you’ll run, jump, and shoot to defeat all enemies, then race to the finish. At first, the quickest completion times might seem out of reach, but you’ll quickly discover hidden shortcuts and strategies to improve your speed. Earning the platinum medal on each level is a great start, but beating the super-fast secret red medal times is the real test of skill.
Echo Point Nova
Satisfying Shooting While Riding A Hoverboard
At first glance, Echo Point Nova seems like a simple, fast-paced shooter where you ride a hoverboard and blast enemies – it’s enjoyable, but not groundbreaking. However, as you play, you’ll gain new skills that push you to explore different strategies, and the game’s deeper complexity begins to reveal itself.
As you progress, you’ll gain tools like a grapple that allows for almost unlimited air movement, fundamentally altering how you explore the game’s world. Later on, the game truly shines. The final levels present seemingly insurmountable challenges. At this point, Echo Point Nova isn’t just testing your ability to use its mechanics – it’s testing how well you understand them within the game’s environment. Successfully completing these difficult puzzles is incredibly rewarding and provides a lasting sense of accomplishment.
Doom Eternal
The Pinnacle Of Modern Boomer Shooters
The recent Doom games are all incredibly well-made and showcase exciting, fast-paced action. But if we had to choose just one as the best, it would be Doom Eternal.
This second installment in the rebooted series delivers everything that’s great about the games, with a tight, well-paced experience. You’ll consistently unlock new weapons, but limited resources force you to use them all creatively. You’ll need to actively defeat enemies with ‘Glory Kills’ to replenish ammo, creating a compelling mix of aggressive offense and careful survival. The levels themselves are designed to support this fast-paced, strategic gameplay, offering plenty of options for movement, attack, and challenging platforming that rewards skill without encouraging mindless rushing.
Severed Steel
High-Speed Movement Meets Destructible Levels
It’s difficult to show just how fun Severed Steel is in a single picture, because the game is all about fast movement and causing destruction. It feels similar to games like Echo Point Nova or Doom Eternal, but what really sets it apart is that you can destroy the environments around you. This makes every moment unpredictable and chaotic. Plus, there’s a bullet time feature that lets you briefly slow down time to perform incredible stunts.
The biggest drawback of Severed Steel is its length – a skilled player can finish it in under four hours. However, the game offers good replay value with a roguelite mode and a level editor, allowing you to create and share custom levels with friends online.
Titanfall 2
FPS Level Design, Perfected
Many people praise Titanfall 2, especially its excellent story mode. However, it doesn’t often receive enough recognition for how satisfying the shooting feels, considering how quickly you move around. The fast-paced action when playing as a pilot feels very different from the slower, more deliberate Titan combat, and this variety is one of the game’s greatest strengths.
The game’s fast pace comes from a combination of abilities like wall-running, double jumps, and a grappling hook. You can seamlessly link these moves together to build up speed and maintain your momentum. Even while moving quickly, your aim remains incredibly accurate, letting you defeat groups of enemies without landing. This makes for an amazing combat experience, and the fantastic level design in Titanfall 2’s celebrated single-player campaign only makes it better.
I Am Your Beast
A Breakneck Revenge Thriller
The fast-paced levels in I Am Your Beast tell a surprisingly compelling story about a former spy who’s gone into hiding in the woods, only to be tracked down by his old agency. It’s similar to a game like Neon White, focusing on quickly completing challenging levels and aiming for the best possible time.
Unlike Neon White, I Am Your Beast focuses on gritty realism instead of fantastical powers. You rely on your surroundings, enemy weapons, and hand-to-hand combat to survive, creating a strong sense of playing a skilled spy. The combat is intense and visceral, but incredibly rewarding, and you genuinely feel yourself getting better with each try. This game was unfairly ignored in 2024 and deserves more recognition now.
Mullet Madjack
Hyperviolent Action That Demands Speed To Survive
Okay, so I just played Mullet Madjack and it’s WILD. It’s a super fast-paced FPS, but they’ve built the whole game around that speed. You only have 10 seconds to live at a time, which sounds crazy, right? But every enemy you take down adds time back onto your clock, while getting hit takes it away. It forces you to be constantly moving and shooting – you literally have to be aggressive! The whole thing is set in this really over-the-top, violent future, and it’s just a non-stop adrenaline rush.
You’ll have a huge arsenal to fight your enemies, including pistols, swords, and shotguns – all with powerful recoil and satisfyingly over-the-top effects. The game also throws in some random abilities during each playthrough, keeping things fresh and unpredictable. Mullet Madjack is completely wild and doesn’t try to hide it! If you’re looking for a fast-paced, no-nonsense FPS, this is definitely worth playing.
Turbo Overkill
A Retro Sci-Fi RPG With Ridiculous Action Sequences
While Mullet Madjack thrives on chaotic energy, Turbo Overkill is all about maintaining a constant sense of cool. Heavily influenced by fast-paced shooters from the 90s and modern games like Titanfall 2 and Doom, this game is designed to keep you constantly engaged and never let the action slow down. If you’re not feeling like an unstoppable force, you might be playing it wrong.
Turbo Overkill stands out thanks to its incredibly imaginative and over-the-top weapons. It begins with simple laser pistols, but even those are satisfying – enemies literally melt when you hit them. From there, the weapons get wilder, including a rocket launcher built into your arm and a gun that teleports you inside your enemies. Combined with epic boss fights and incredibly fast-paced movement – think wall-running and explosive jumps – Turbo Overkill is one of the most over-the-top and enjoyable shooters in years.
