A Pokémon artist shared 18 new drawings online, reimagining classic Pokémon from the Kanto region. They were thrilled with the positive response to their work, which is part of a daily project where they explore different ways to depict each Pokémon.
The Kanto region is where the original 151 Pokémon were discovered, and it’s the most frequently featured location in the main Pokémon video games. Recently, during the 2026 Pokémon Day celebrations, Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen were released for the Nintendo Switch, letting players enjoy the first remakes of the classic games. Since then, players of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen have been creating their own challenges and sharing their progress online for others to see.
Pokemon Fan Shares 18 Amazing Kanto Critter Redesigns
With the recent surge in popularity of revisiting the original Pokemon games set in the Kanto region, one artist decided to reimagine some of Kanto’s Pokemon in their own style. Redditor NehGon shared their hand-drawn redesigns of 18 Pokemon, ranging from Pidgey to Nidoking, combining new details with the classic designs. This post follows up on their previous work, where they redesigned the original starter Pokemon, Bulbasaur and others. NehGon was thrilled with the positive response to their first post and enjoyed hearing from fellow Pokemon fans. While the designs for Pidgey and Spearow stayed fairly close to the originals, Rattata and Raticate received a significant upgrade with much larger fangs.
The artists also made Arbok’s belly pattern more striking to make it look even more frightening. For Pikachu and Raichu, they added more fur to their cheek pouches, helping the iconic Pokémon stand out. Sandshrew and Sandslash received more detailed scales, and Sandslash was given a slimmer build. Both the female and male Nidoran lines were enhanced with extra details. Nidoqueen’s lower body was made larger and covered with more scales, while Nidoking’s upper body and arms were significantly bigger. Considering Nidoking is already a strong Poison-type Pokémon, the added spikes and barbs on its head made it look even more intimidating.

With the recent resurgence of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, many Pokemon fans have been creating artwork imagining the creatures of the Kanto region in different ways. One artist recently shared their take on what Paras would evolve into if it lost the mushroom on its back. The Pokémon Company has announced its plans for the 2026 Pokémon Night Out and Day Out events. Pokémon Night Out is an EDM concert with DJs Marshmello and Alison Wonderland, plus Pokémon-themed fun, and will be held in London and Los Angeles this fall. Pokémon Day Out will take place in Bordeaux, Dresden, Mexico City, and New York City during the summer.
