The following article contains spoilers for Classroom of the Elite Season 4.
Season 4 of Classroom of the Elite (also known as Youjitsu Season 4) is shaping up to be another strong installment. The episodes are engaging, and the story is gradually increasing the suspense as it builds towards a major test at the end of the term. The animation isn’t quite as polished as shows like One Piece, but it’s still good and enjoyable so far.
This week’s episode feels like a setup for what’s coming next, focusing on students and classes as they get ready for an important test. It might seem a little slow-paced for some viewers, but that slower pace is important for building the story.
Preparing for the Desert Island Special Test
Although the special challenge from Episode 5 isn’t happening for several months, some of the rules are now available. Students can work in small groups, and those small groups can combine to form larger ones, up to a maximum of six people. There are also specific guidelines about how these groups are put together, including requirements for the balance of male and female students.
Students can work in groups with classmates from different classes, but only if they’re all in the same year. However, if students from multiple classes team up, any points they earn will be shared across those classes. Joining a stronger class might seem helpful for avoiding low scores, but it could actually hurt classes that are already behind. Horikita is still deciding on the best approach, and she’s considering the possibility of forming an alliance with students from other classes. This is a risky plan, but it could create a powerful three-class team capable of challenging the currently leading Class A.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend, you mean? A reasonable idea.
— Suzune Horikita in Youjitsu Season 4, Episode 6
Horikita suspects Class A will try to stop any attempts at sabotage, and she’s right – Sakayanagi suggests teaming up with Ichinose to protect Class A. Horikita is watching to see what the other classes do and asks Class D to hold off on making any alliances. She doesn’t seem interested in creating a group specifically to oppose Class A.
The Real Risks of the Special Test
Okay, so the biggest worry with this “Desert Island Survival Game Special Test” is definitely getting expelled. Basically, the bottom five groups are in serious trouble – they’ll be penalized and kicked out! While points can save you, Horikita’s really stressing that we can’t afford to have too many Class D students down there. Our class points just aren’t high enough to rescue everyone. And here’s another thing: if a whole group, or even a solo tester, can’t continue and has to drop out, they’ll also face a penalty that leads to expulsion. It’s a really tough situation, and we need to avoid both the bottom rankings and anyone giving up!
Even though Horikita gave instructions to the contrary, Satsuki Shinohara from Class D ended up joining a group with two students from Class B – after discussing it with her classmates. This is complicated by the fact that Kanji Ike likes Satsuki, and she seems to feel the same way, though they haven’t actually talked about their feelings. Adding to the situation, Kyogo Kamiya from Class B invited Satsuki to join the group, hoping to confess his feelings for her during the test. Ayanokoji and Horikita are concerned this love triangle could distract Ike and negatively impact his performance.

Ayanokoji has chosen to tackle the test by himself, which is probably his best approach. The special test where students earn points for successfully expelling him – something introduced at the beginning of the new season – will continue throughout the entire first term. Adding to the complexity, some students have received cards through the school app that can either help or hinder them during the test. Ayanokoji received the “Trial Card,” which gives his team a 50% bonus to class points, but will penalize them if they don’t finish in the top 30. He appears confident he can secure first place – it’s no surprise he’s often considered one of the smartest anime characters ever. However, he still doesn’t know which of the first-year students also came from the White Room.
What to Expect Next in This Season
The survival game is scheduled for late July and will likely wrap up at the end of the first school term. This current episode felt like a build-up to the main event, and the next one will probably continue focusing on preparations, particularly now that Horikita has a plan to help Class D avoid expulsion. Even though it continues the story, season four is a good place for new viewers to start.
