The Taiwanese ratings board recently gave Starfield a rating for the Switch 2, suggesting it might be released on Nintendo’s new console soon. When Starfield launched in September 2023, Microsoft and Bethesda intended it to be a major game for the Xbox Series X|S. While Starfield was a new, modern open-world game from Bethesda, it didn’t quite live up to what players hoped for. Many felt it lacked the charm of previous Bethesda games because it relied too heavily on automatically generated content instead of a detailed, carefully designed world.
As a big Starfield fan, I was so excited when the first expansion, Shattered Space, came out on September 30, 2024! It took us right into the territory of House Va’ruun, which I always thought was one of the coolest groups in the game. While it added a lot to the story and really tried to create a unique alien world, it sadly didn’t bring back many of the players who left after the initial launch. But then, on April 7, 2026, Terran Armada dropped, and it was a game-changer! So many people, myself included, have jumped back into Starfield, and honestly, the game feels so much better now in 2026. It’s great to see it thriving!
Starfield May Be Coming to Nintendo Switch 2
According to Universo Nintendo, the Taiwan Entertainment Software Rating Information board recently gave a rating to a Switch 2 version of Starfield. This suggests Bethesda might be developing a port of the game for the new console, or there could be a mistake in the rating information. It’s important to be cautious, as the game’s listing also has incorrect release dates for the PlayStation 5. However, rumors of Starfield coming to Switch 2 have been circulating online since March 2026.
A recent leak suggests Nintendo is working on a new version of the Switch, but development hasn’t been without challenges. Considering the technical problems Starfield faced on the PlayStation 5, Bethesda will likely be very careful when creating a version for the Switch 2. Starfield requires a powerful processor to run well, and the Switch 2 is expected to have a less powerful processor than the Xbox and PlayStation, so Bethesda likely needs to find ways to make the game run smoothly on the new hardware.
Players can look forward to an enhanced Starfield experience in 2026, with improvements planned for points of interest, a new Cruise Mode for faster space travel, and better loot and crafting systems. They’ll also be able to upgrade their Starborn powers anywhere and carry favorite weapons between playthroughs. While these updates will refine the gameplay, the game’s story and companions remain areas for improvement, and the randomly generated nature of planets still limits the depth of environmental storytelling.

Although Starfield didn’t become the defining Xbox exclusive many hoped for, it’s proven popular on PC, Xbox, and now PlayStation. If it also comes to the Switch 2, it will likely share a similar position with other Bethesda games – playable on a variety of systems, packed with content, and enhanced by a dedicated modding community.
