Luffy’s Gear 5 is a fantastic power-up, achieved by awakening his Devil Fruit, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, and ranks among the best in all of One Piece. However, the world of One Piece also features other unique abilities that are comparable to Gear 5. Some of these powers, created by Eiichiro Oda, are so impressive they might even be stronger.
Five Elders Yokai
- Devil Fruit: Yokai Powers
- Form: Hybrid Transformations
The Five Elders are deeply loyal to Imu and are likely the most powerful figures in the World Government after the King. Their special agreements with the King grant them incredible abilities, including infinite regeneration, immortality, and superhuman strength. Specifically, their pact with Imu allows them to transform into powerful Yokai as well.
Each of the Five Elders has a special, unique form they can transform into – a power Oda revealed during the Egghead Arc of One Piece. Combined with their already incredible Haki, this transformation makes them incredibly strong, able to fight on par with Luffy’s Gear 5, as seen in the Egghead Arc. At full power, they can easily match Gear 5, and some might even be stronger.
Big Mom’s Soul Consumption
- Devil Fruit: Soru Soru no Mi
- Form: Physical Buff Transformation
Big Mom possesses a powerful Devil Fruit called Soru Soru no Mi, but she also has other abilities, including transformations that significantly boost her strength. One of these is her Soul Consumption form, where she sacrifices years of her own life to become larger, more intimidating, and incredibly powerful. While using this ability comes at a great cost, it makes her one of the strongest beings in the world.
This power-up allowed Big Mom to fight both Law and Kid simultaneously. While she ultimately lost the battle, it wasn’t due to a defeat in strength – she was forced off the island and overwhelmed by an enormous number of explosives, enough to devastate an entire nation.

Kaido’s Drum Dragon
- Devil Fruit: Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu
- Form: Full Zoan Transformation
Luffy’s Gear 5 was first challenged by Kaido in the One Piece series. Although Gear 5 consistently evaded Kaido’s standard hybrid form, Kaido’s most powerful transformation proved to be a serious match. Near the end of the arc, Kaido unleashed his ‘Flaming Drum Dragon’ form, covering himself in intensely hot, magma-like flames capable of melting islands with just a touch.
If Kaido had directly hit Luffy while he was in that form, Luffy would have definitely been defeated. Luckily, Luffy could inflict massive damage without actually touching Kaido, allowing him to avoid Kaido’s most powerful attacks. However, it’s clear that Kaido was still a far more powerful opponent than Luffy, even with Gear 5.
Rocks’s Domi Reversi
- Devil Fruit: None
- Form: Forced Contract With Imu
Rocks D. Xebec is a hugely important character in the One Piece story, and we recently learned more about him during the Elbaph arc through Loki’s memories. He was incredibly strong – capable of easily defeating an Admiral 56 years ago – and was considered equal in power to the famous King Harald.
38 years ago in God Valley, Imu drastically altered Rocks, who was defeated there. He used a technique called Domi Reversi to grant Rocks immense power, making him immortal and able to regenerate endlessly. However, this came at a terrible cost: Rocks lost all his intelligence and free will, becoming a mindless puppet completely controlled by Imu.
This power was overwhelming – not even legendary figures like Roger and Garp could defeat him on their own. They had to combine their abilities just to stop his destruction, proving how incredibly dangerous it is. Even Luffy’s Gear 5 wouldn’t have been enough to subdue Rocks D. Xebec.
Harald’s Depths Covenant
- Devil Fruit: None
- Form: Covenant With Imu
Imu has the rare ability to boost the power of anyone around him – even his opponents. He does this through special agreements called Covenants, and some are incredibly dangerous. His most powerful, the Abyssal Covenant, is given to the Five Elders, but the Depths Covenant is also a serious threat. Fourteen years ago, Imu marked King Harald with this Covenant, turning him into a devastating force. It gave Harald immortality, the ability to heal rapidly, and immense strength, making him nearly unbeatable when combined with his existing powers.
Harald became so powerful that people feared he would destroy the world if he left Elbaph. He was, by far, the strongest warrior Imu had ever created. Even combined, Shanks and Gaban weren’t strong enough to defeat him. He was only stopped because of Loki’s incredibly powerful Nidhoggr ability, which directly countered Imu’s powers.
Loki’s Nidhoggr Hybrid
- Devil Fruit: Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr
- Form: Hybrid Transformation
Loki, also known as the Accursed Prince of Elbaph, is an incredibly powerful character in the world of One Piece. He gained his abilities by eating the Nidhoggr Devil Fruit 14 years ago, making him a formidable opponent. Some believe Loki’s power is so great, he could even destroy the world. He’s significantly stronger than even King Harald, who was already a very powerful warrior.
Loki’s ability to transform into Nidhoggr is impressive, but he has an even more powerful form he can access. This hybrid form significantly increases his strength, and was briefly shown as a shadowy figure during his battle with Harald. It’s considered one of the most remarkable abilities showcased in One Piece.
Imu’s Devil Form
- Devil Fruit: Akuma no Mi
- Form: Hybrid Transformation
In the world of One Piece, Imu’s Devil Fruit power is arguably even more impressive than Luffy’s Gear 5. First revealed in chapter 1179, Imu demonstrated the ability of his Devil Fruit, known as the Akuma no Mi, for the first time. This fruit allows him to transform into a monstrous, devil-like form, classifying it as a Zoan-type Devil Fruit with a truly unique transformation.
When Imu arrived in Elbaph, they immediately used a powerful hybrid form, transforming into a being resembling the Devil of their world. This form was incredibly strong, overwhelming anyone who tried to oppose Imu in battle. While Imu can also fully transform into the Devil, the complete appearance of this ultimate form hasn’t been revealed yet.
We got a quick glimpse of this during the fight between Sabo and the Five Elders, as well as Nerona Imu, inside Pangea Castle. Currently, Imu is significantly more powerful than even the Sun God Nika, making this new ability especially threatening.
