In 2020, Krome Studios and inXile Entertainment released a remastered version of the classic 1988 post-apocalyptic role-playing game, Wasteland. While the remaster received mixed reactions—some felt it didn’t significantly improve a game that was already quite old—the original Wasteland is still considered a highly influential RPG. In fact, its post-apocalyptic world later served as the basis for Interplay’s popular Fallout series, which debuted in 1997.

It’s currently unclear if inXile Entertainment plans to continue the Wasteland series. Given the long wait for a new Fallout game and the growing popularity of CRPGs like Baldur’s Gate 3, now would seem like a great time for a new Wasteland title. However, inXile hasn’t said anything about Wasteland 4. Instead, they announced Clockwork Revolution in 2023, and haven’t given any details on when it will be released. What inXile plans to do after Clockwork Revolution comes out is still unknown.
