Although Kingdom Hearts 4 is anticipated to be released within the next few years, its exact release date is still unknown. So, it might be a good idea to find something else to play while you wait, and the upcoming Steam game Alabaster Dawn could be a great option for those eager for Sora’s next adventure. Just be aware that it has a different style – Alabaster Dawn uses a classic 2.5D look instead of the colorful 3D graphics of Kingdom Hearts.

Alabaster Dawn’s Fast, Flashy Swordfights Look Like a Keyblade Wielder’s Dream Come True
One of the best parts of Kingdom Hearts is how its Disney and Square Enix characters come together, but its exciting combat is also a major strength. That’s why it’s a great example for other games, even those with 2D graphics. Kingdom Hearts battles are quick and visually impressive, with players quickly moving between enemies, stringing together attacks, and using special abilities tied to their keyblade. Though the hero of Alabaster Dawn, Juno, doesn’t use a keyblade, her sword fighting style shares a similar feel.
The developers have directly stated that Kingdom Hearts and Devil May Cry, as well as their previous game CrossCode, were major influences. Players will control four elements and wield eight unique weapons, each capable of using two elements simultaneously. Weapons can be switched instantly, even during battle, and the game promises a wide variety of enemies to keep the combat engaging. Each weapon also has its own skill tree, unlocking new combat abilities, and players can learn powerful elemental spells called divine arts.
Beyond the exciting combat, the game features classic RPG elements. Players can improve their weapons by crafting and attaching gems, and they can boost healing by cooking special meals using ingredients they find. As players eat more, they’ll unlock both temporary and lasting benefits for their character. The game also encourages exploration, with secret areas, puzzles, and hidden treasure to discover. A fast travel system with customizable reminders makes it easy to revisit locations and ensures players aren’t spending too much time backtracking.

Alabaster Dawn Will Be a Big Game (Eventually)
Like many role-playing games, Alabaster Dawn offers a lengthy experience, with the main story expected to take 30 to 60 hours to complete. The game is set on Titan Sol, a broken world where a sleeping curse has fallen upon humanity and the gods are gone. Players will explore 7 distinct areas that can be revitalized and rebuilt through helping its inhabitants, advancing technology, and establishing trade. However, Alabaster Dawn is launching as an early access title, meaning this rebuilding aspect is the ultimate goal, not where the game begins.
So, I’m really excited about Alabaster Dawn, but the developers are saying early access is going to be a long haul – they’re estimating at least two years! When it launches on May 7th, we’ll only have about 10 hours of the main story and some side quests to play, but they’ll be constantly updating and improving things as they add more content. They’re promising our saves will work with future updates, which is awesome, and the price will go up as they release more stuff. If you’re a fan of CrossCode like me, or if Alabaster Dawn looks cool to you, I’d recommend grabbing it early. You’ll get it at a lower price and help support the game’s development. Honestly, with the interesting story and fun combat they’re showing off, it looks like a really promising RPG that a lot of us will enjoy.
