On April 17th, which is also her character’s birthday within the game, Blizzard updated Sierra in Overwatch, significantly improving her Helix Rifle and Anchor Drone. This update aims to make Sierra a stronger and more dependable character, but players can likely expect further tweaks and adjustments in the coming weeks.
Okay, so Overwatch just dropped its Season 2 update, “Reign of Talon: Summit,” and it’s pretty wild! They added a new damage hero named Sierra, and she’s a beast. Her gun, the Helix Rifle, has this Tracking Shot that actually follows enemies, which is super cool. She can also deploy an Anchor Drone to quickly zip around the map, and she’s got these Tremor Charges and a Trailblazer ability that can really devastate an area. It’s a funny detail, but her birthday is April 17th, so they released her really close to her in-game birthday – closer than any other hero they’ve ever put out! It’s a neat little easter egg.
Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 2 Hero Sierra Changes Explained
Sierra recently celebrated her birthday, and Blizzard gave her a fantastic gift in Overwatch! A new update on April 17th improved her abilities: her Helix Rifle now does more damage with each shot, she can reach her drone faster, and the drone itself is much tougher. Plus, the health boost from her Medi-Drone Major Perk now provides even more healing to Damage heroes.
To balance out recent improvements to Sierra, a small adjustment was also made: her ultimate ability, Trailblazer, now costs more energy. It previously required 1800 points, but now costs 2350. Blizzard increased the cost because Sierra was building up her ultimate too quickly, and a recent damage boost would have made it even faster to charge without this change.
Prior to this update, Trailblazer and Cassidy had equally fast ultimate abilities, ranking them 6th in Overwatch. After the update, Sierra’s ultimate is now among the slower ones, placing her in a tie for 29th with Domina and Torbjorn.
It’s no surprise players have mixed feelings about the recent changes. A lot of people believe the new hero in Overwatch is too strong and worry the updates will only make things worse, despite her ultimate ability charging faster. However, official Overwatch stats show her win rate is currently between 46-48% in all game modes and regions, suggesting she isn’t as dominant as some fear. While players are still figuring out how to play against her, the data indicates these adjustments were likely necessary.
Sierra likely isn’t finished being updated. The developers might make small adjustments with quick hotfixes if these changes prove to be too strong or too weak. The midseason update for Overwatch’s Reign of Talon Season 2, around May 12th, often includes hero tweaks, so we can anticipate further changes to Sierra if her win rate doesn’t balance out – whether it goes up too much or not enough. For now, these changes are available in the game, so players can try her out and see how she performs.

This is a balance hotfix update. Replay codes from the April 14, 2026 patch are still available.
DAMAGE
Sierra
Since her release, Sierra hasn’t been performing as well as we’d hoped. We’re boosting her weapon damage to help her deal more overall damage, and increasing the reward for hitting shots with Tracking Shot. We’ve also made improvements to her Anchor Drone, making it more responsive and durable, which should allow players to be more aggressive. Because of the increased damage and already quick charge rate, we’re slightly increasing the cost of her ultimate ability.
- Trailblazer
- Ultimate cost increased by 30%.
- Helix Rifle
- Damage per projectile increased from 7 to 9.
- Tracking Shot
- Damage per projectile increased from 7 to 9.
- Anchor Drone
- Health increased from 30 to 80.
- Grapple move speed increased from 20 to 22.
- Medi-Drone – Major Perk
- Healing increased from 75 to 100.
