No Rest for the Wicked Dev Gives Update on Console Versions

The team behind No Rest for the Wicked, Moon Studios, wants to reassure PlayStation and Xbox players that a console version is still planned, despite not having a release date yet. This message came with an update on the game’s development and recent sales figures.

No Rest for the Wicked is an action role-playing game with challenging, skill-based combat inspired by the ‘soulslike’ genre. It’s made by Moon Studios, the team behind the popular and beautifully designed metroidvania games Ori and the Will of the Wisps and Ori and the Blind Forest. The game first became available on Steam as an early access title on April 18, 2024, and quickly gained attention for its detailed, hand-made worlds, unique oil-painting art style, and engaging battles.

No Rest for the Wicked Dev Assures Console Players They Haven’t Been Forgotten

Hey everyone, so Moon Studios just posted a message on Steam for the game’s second anniversary, and they wanted to let all us console players know they haven’t forgotten about us! Sadly, they didn’t give us any hints about when No Rest For the Wicked might come to consoles, though. They did say they’re still working hard on the full 1.0 version, and they’re super grateful for all the feedback we early access players have given them. Apparently, our input really shaped patch 1 and all the updates since then! Oh, and they also announced the game has sold over 1.7 million copies, which is awesome to hear!

From the beginning, Moon Studios intended to release versions of their game on all major consoles. However, in July 2025, they announced that No Rest for the Wicked might not be available on Xbox when it first launches. They explained this decision was due to the current gaming market, and they were prioritizing the PlayStation 5 and the new Nintendo Switch 2. CEO Thomas Mahler added that making the game run well on both the powerful Xbox Series X and the less powerful Series S was a significant challenge for their relatively small team of around 80 people.

So, I just saw that No Rest for the Wicked is already listed on the PlayStation Store, which is cool! But there’s no rating yet and you can’t pre-order it. The developers, Moon Studios, said they want to get the full 1.0 version of the game out before they bother with other platforms. Apparently, dealing with PlayStation and Xbox certification is a huge pain, especially for a game that’s still being updated like this one. They’re way more chill on Steam. Good news is, the co-op update – they’re calling it ‘Together’ – dropped for Steam players back in January 2026, and that was a big step towards getting it ready for consoles.

The game No Rest for the Wicked faced a difficult period, but has ultimately become a major success. In May 2025, negative reviews on Steam nearly forced the developer, Moon Studios, to shut down. However, things turned around, and as of April 2026, the game has received “Very Positive” reviews from over 25,300 players. Sales have also picked up speed – it took 20 months to sell one million copies (about 50,000 per month), but then another 700,000 copies sold in just four months. This represents a 250% increase in monthly sales since the beginning of 2026.
