Asta was born without any magical ability – he couldn’t create or store mana, making him an outcast in a world full of powerful mages like those in Black Clover. But he refused to give up. He relentlessly pushed his physical body to its absolute limit, and his hard work eventually paid off when he unexpectedly received a rare five-leaf grimoire.
Though it looked worn and damaged, the ancient book gave him the power to negate magic – a remarkably powerful ability in any world of magic. But Asta’s anti-magic wasn’t like traditional spells; it manifested as swords. This is where his physical strength became important. He could effortlessly wield incredibly large and heavy swords, and he was also skilled at fighting with two swords at once when needed. As he grew stronger, he developed various techniques using his anti-magic abilities.
8. Bull Thrust
Asta is incredibly strong physically, easily wielding multiple swords to defeat enemies and even cut through their magic. However, because he can’t use magic himself, he initially relied on close-range combat. But he’s found a way to overcome this limitation – by working with allies.
I’m seriously amazed by Asta’s ability to wield both his Demon-Slayer and Demon-Dweller swords at the same time! It’s the key to his incredible Bull Thrust attack. Basically, he aims both swords forward and launches himself straight at his opponent. The anti-magic properties of the swords then cancel out any magic they’re using and deal a ton of damage. He even has a simpler version, One-Horn Bull Thrust, where he just uses a single sword, which is still super effective!
7. Black Slash
Black Slash significantly improves Asta’s combat abilities, letting him fight effectively at both close and medium range. He powers up his sword with anti-magic, then releases it as fast, flying slashes. These slashes carry anti-magic, allowing them to slice right through enemy spells. By swinging his sword repeatedly, Asta can create a rapid series of these slashes. Although the slashes won’t directly cut an opponent, being hit by them will knock them out.
Black Slash gains a new ability when combined with mirror magic. This new technique, called Mirror Slash, is created by combining anti-magic and mirror magic – it’s different from Devil Union. After Asta joins the Mirror’s Brigade, his Demon-Dweller Sword absorbs mirror magic, allowing him to unleash a rapid series of slashes that cancel out other magic.
6. Black Meteorite
Black Meteorite is an enhanced version of Asta’s Bull Thrust attack. Instead of simply charging forward, Asta covers himself in anti-magic, transforming into Black Asta. This allows him to control anti-magic and overcome the limitations of Bull Thrust. As Black Asta, he’s drawn to powerful magic, effectively guiding him towards his target, even in the air. The technique gets its name from the visual of Asta rocketing towards his opponent, resembling a black meteorite.
Like Black Slash, Black Meteorite can be enhanced with mirror magic. When the Mirror Brigade creates duplicates, Asta and his clones can all use Black Meteorite to attack the enemy simultaneously from different angles.

5. Black Divider
Once Asta mastered his anti-magic, he gained the ability to make his Demon-Slayer Sword much larger. This oversized sword could then serve as a powerful shield, capable of deflecting magic, or be used to strike larger opponents. Because of its anti-magic nature, it continues to draw in strong magical attacks, making them difficult to avoid. Asta successfully used this technique to pierce Zagred, a significant accomplishment even though Zagred wasn’t the strongest devil he’d faced.
4. Black Hurricane
Black Hurricane is a powerful attack from Asta, capable of wiping out a large area with a single hit. It involves Asta spinning rapidly and unleashing a storm of attacks, just like a hurricane. But it’s not just about speed – Asta first transforms into his Black Asta form and uses his anti-magic to hone in on enemy spells. A key benefit of Black Hurricane is its ability to also destroy any hidden traps in the surrounding area.
3. Infinite Slash Equinox
Asta’s Infinite Slash Equinox is his most powerful attack, building on the formidable Dark Cloaked Dimension Slash: Equinox technique used by Yami Sukehiro. Asta achieves this by uniting with Liebe. In this combined form, he uses the Demon-Slasher Katana to deliver a powerful downward slash. Though straightforward, the attack is incredibly destructive, creating a massive, long-range blade that maintains its cutting power over miles. Because it’s executed with the Demon-Slasher Katana, it precisely targets enemies without harming allies.
