Players of World of Warcraft have figured out how to get the tricky “A Most Violent Loa” achievement in the Midnight expansion: they need to defeat 100 capybaras. While this isn’t necessary to complete the main achievements in World of Warcraft: Midnight, players aiming for 100% completion will have to take on this challenging task.

In WoW: Midnight, the Zul’Aman area delves into the spiritual world of the Amani Trolls and their gods, known as Loa. The update introduced several new, minor Loa, like Dundun, the rat Loa representing abundance, and Kulzi, the pangolin Loa of healing. However, Filo, the capybara Loa associated with childhood, quickly became a fan favorite. This gentle spirit protects children, both those still living and those who have passed away, and features in one of the most emotionally powerful sidequests in the game.

How to Get “A Most Violent Loa” Achievement in WoW: Midnight

Filo is linked to a surprisingly difficult secret achievement. Even the notoriously ruthless character from Baldur’s Gate 3 might think twice before trying to unlock it. Called “A Most Violent Loa,” the achievement requires players to “Experience the rage of Filo, Loa of Childhood.” According to Wowhead, players discovered this means killing 100 Kapara near Zul’Aman. These peaceful, capybara-like creatures aren’t aggressive, but they can be killed. Once a player has killed enough, they unlock the achievement… and incur Filo’s wrath. He appears with a massive 12 million hit points and a powerful boost, seeking revenge for the Kapara.

  • Slay 100 Kapara of any kind throughout Zul’Aman.
    • This must be done on a single character, though logging out or leaving the zone does not seem to reset progress.
    • Every 25 kills, the player will be given an emoted warning:
      • 25: “Your actions have caused an eye once closed to open…”
      • 50: “The eye that watches you now glares…”
      • 75: “Rage and darkness swell behind the glare which fixates on you…”
  • After 100 kills, the “A Most Violent Loa” achievement is unlocked, and Filo will appear for 1 minute and attack the character until they are slain.
    • Filo has the powerful Capybara’s Vow of Vengeance buff:
      • Attack speed and critical chance increased by 100%.
      • Movement speed and damage inflicted increased by 500%.
      • Damage taken decreased by 50%.
      • Immune to everything.

It took a while to figure out how to unlock this achievement! World of Warcraft: Midnight came out on March 2nd, but it was about seven weeks before players discovered the correct method. During that time, fans tried all sorts of things to trigger the achievement, like killing Kapara in front of Filo, using rude emotes on Kapara or young trolls in Zul’Aman, or even using a toy to turn into a child and die near the Loa.

Don’t worry, getting this achievement isn’t necessary to unlock any of the bigger rewards in Midnight, like “Light Up the Night.” However, players aiming to collect every achievement in World of Warcraft will need to complete it.
