2026 has been a challenging year for Ubisoft, with seven games pushed back and six projects, including the almost-finished Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, scrapped altogether.
In 2026, Ubisoft dealt with several employee strikes triggered by studio closures, company restructuring, and job losses. At the same time, the company reorganized into five creative divisions, aiming to turn its biggest franchises into yearly billion-dollar properties and consistently offer ongoing, competitive game experiences.
Although fans were initially relieved by the announcement of the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, recent news has created new difficulties for Ubisoft.
Recent job postings at Ubisoft indicate the company is hiring many developers with expertise in artificial intelligence. This suggests that upcoming games in franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry may utilize AI technology in their development – a practice that has sparked debate in the gaming community.
Ubisoft’s New AI Job Requirements
Tech4Gamers, a gaming and PC news site, recently discovered two job postings at Ubisoft that ask applicants to be familiar with AI tools like Copilot, Claude, and Gemini.
Ubisoft Annecy is hiring a Technical Art Director for a high-quality multiplayer game built with Unreal Engine 5. The ideal candidate will be proficient in scripting languages like Maxscript or Python and have experience using AI tools like Claude, Copilot, or ChatGPT.
In addition to 3D modeling skills, this job requires experience with generative AI tools like ComfyUI, MidJourney, NanoBanana, or Hunyuan.
One Paris-based job opening for a Prompt Specialist asked applicants to be very familiar with a variety of language models – including GPT-4, Gemini, Claude, and others – and to understand how they each work differently.
I saw in the job description that knowing how to code and being able to really use AI APIs would give me a big leg up – basically, it’d make my application way stronger. So, if you’re applying, brush up on your programming and AI stuff!
Honestly, if you’re applying for this, knowing how to code will really help. And if you’ve messed around with AI APIs before – like, actually know how to make them do things – you’ll be way ahead of the curve. It’s a big plus if you can actually use those tools efficiently.
Looking at other Ubisoft job postings around the world, AI isn’t mentioned in every role. When it is, it usually refers to programming for non-player characters (NPCs), like the Senior Gameplay Animator (AI) position for Far Cry in Montreal.
Even though it’s still early days, the fact that Ubisoft included references to cutting-edge AI technology in their job postings strongly suggests they plan to use AI more in their games. They’re also likely to hire people with experience in this field, potentially for major franchises like Assassin’s Creed.

Ubisoft has already faced criticism for using AI-generated content in its games. Most notably, fans spotted an AI-created image in the 2025 release of Anno 117: Pax Romana. Ubisoft explained that the image wasn’t intentional – it accidentally made it into the final game. They clarified that they only use AI during the early stages of development for creating temporary assets and testing ideas.

During the 2025 New Global Sport Conference, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot proposed using generative AI to create more realistic historical figures in future Assassin’s Creed games. He pointed to Socrates, who was featured in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, as an example of a character who could benefit from this technology to better reflect his actual historical persona.
It’s likely that AI will soon be widely used in creating both action-command (AC) and full-control (FC) games. This could mean less work for human developers, and potentially job losses, while also making historical settings in these games feel less genuine as AI-generated content replaces human creativity.
