As a seasoned researcher with years of experience in the cryptocurrency realm, I find Roger Ver’s recent interview with Tucker Carlson intriguing and thought-provoking. Ver’s arrest in Spain on charges of tax evasion seems to be more than meets the eye, considering his renunciation of US citizenship a decade ago and the timing of his book release criticizing Bitcoin‘s current state.
As a devoted crypto enthusiast, I recently had the opportunity to sit down for an engaging interview with Tucker Carlson, a renowned American journalist, which he subsequently shared on his social media platform under the handle X. The Bitcoin Jesus himself, Roger Ver, was the one gracing us with his insights during this discussion.
During this conversation, Roger Ver explained the reasons behind his recent arrest in Spain and offered his perspective on how Bitcoin has evolved today. He additionally addressed Carlson’s query regarding the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the enigmatic creator of Bitcoin.
According to U.Today’s report, Roger Ver was arrested in Spain on April 30th, following a request from the United States Department of Justice. The charges against him include tax evasion and allegedly causing a loss of approximately $48 million to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.

Ver claims he knows the real reason for his arrest and its not taxes
To begin the interview, Tucker Carlson directly expressed his skepticism about the “tax evasion” allegation as the sole reason some prominent individuals get arrested overseas, and he questioned Ver if there could be other explanations why the U.S. government might want to imprison him for an extended period – up to 109 years.
Ver contends that his arrest isn’t primarily about taxes, but rather it stems from his involvement with Bitcoin during its early stages and his recent assertions that Bitcoin lacks privacy for users when managing their financial resources.
In 2014, realizing such actions might be risky, Ver chose to renounce his U.S. citizenship and instead acquired citizenship from the Caribbean islands of St. Kitts and Nevis, doing so through their investment-based naturalization process.
Ver stated that his detention occurred about ten years following his relinquishment of U.S. citizenship and approximately two months after the publication of his book “Hijacking Bitcoin,” where he expressed the opinion that the current form of Bitcoin does not align with Satoshi Nakamoto’s original vision when developing BTC.
“Who is Satoshi?” Ver responds
When Carlson inquired about Satoshi’s identity from Roger Ver, the Bitcoin figurehead expressed his uncertainty, stating that he thinks no one truly knows who Satoshi is worldwide.
Regardless of who he may be, according to Ver, he created one of the most significant inventions in all of human history – an innovation comparable in importance to electricity, the transistor, and the internet when it comes to Bitcoin.
