Throughout the Dragon Ball series, a lot of unique attacks and abilities have been shown. However, the Kiai techniques are often overlooked despite being incredibly useful. These moves work by manipulating the energy around a fighter to create powerful blasts or shockwaves.
I’ve been looking into Kiai techniques – those energy blasts and shouts characters use. While they aren’t always the most powerful moves in the Dragon Ball universe, some are surprisingly strong, even appearing in Dragon Ball Super. So, I decided to break down the strongest ones and see which really stands out as the ultimate Kiai technique.
Vegito Had To Dodge The Sacred Wave
User: Merged Zamasu
Everyone knows that Goku and Vegeta are among the strongest characters in the universe when they fuse together. During the Goku Black storyline, Vegito reappeared to fight Merged Zamasu, and this fight was much more evenly matched than his previous battle against Buuhan. Zamasu really showed off his incredible power during this encounter.
While Zamasu was talking, Vegito quickly attacked, not wanting to listen any longer. This caused Zamasu to unleash a powerful blast called Sacred Wave. Created simply from the force of his punch, the Sacred Wave destroyed everything in its path, and Vegito realized he had to dodge it instead of trying to withstand it.

The Soaring Fist Was A Powerful Offensive Attack
User: Goku
Even though it wasn’t fully mastered, Ultra Instinct Sign was incredibly strong when it first appeared. This made Goku a formidable fighter, allowing him to use both familiar moves and develop entirely new ones, like the Soaring Fist Kiai.
The Soaring Fist technique was very similar to Merged Zamasu’s Sacred Wave. Goku essentially punched the air to generate strong shockwaves that heavily impacted his opponent – like being hit by a truck. We saw a quick example of this during his fight with Kefla, where a single Soaring Fist sent her flying.
The Invisible Eye Blast Was The Strongest With Jiren
User: Jiren
The biggest danger in the Tournament of Power came from Jiren the Grey of Universe 11. He was incredibly strong and had perfect control over his energy, so he mostly fought holding back. His powerful, nearly invisible energy blast easily defeated many opponents, meaning he rarely needed to use his full strength.
I’ve always been fascinated by this energy-based technique – it’s not exclusive to Jiren, actually! We’ve seen characters like the Supreme Kai use similar abilities throughout the series. But Jiren’s version? Wow. It was on a completely different level. He could seriously injure opponents just by looking at them, and even deflect attacks without lifting a finger! It was incredible to witness how powerfully he utilized it.
The Vice Shout Broke Down Dimensional Barriers
Users: Buu, Gotenks
Saving the world from Super Buu involved a dangerous plan, but it initially worked when Piccolo destroyed the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, trapping him inside. Unfortunately, everyone was shocked to discover Super Buu possessed a hidden and incredibly powerful energy blast that could shatter dimensional walls.
Super Buu unleashed a powerful blast called the Vice Shout, releasing a huge amount of energy. This blast was so strong it actually opened a portal above the destroyed Time Chamber, letting him travel back to Kami’s Lookout. It was an unusual attack with the ability to change reality itself – something rarely seen in the series – and inspired Gotenks, in his Super Saiyan 3 form, to try and replicate it.
The Battle Roar Can Incapacitate Destroyer Gods
User: Rumsshi
It’s not surprising that the most powerful Kiai technique in Dragon Ball belongs to a God of Destruction. While it doesn’t shatter dimensions like the Vice Shout, Rumsshi’s Battle Roar is strong enough to knock out even the most powerful beings in the entire multiverse.
Rumsshi has incredibly powerful lungs, allowing him to unleash a roar so deafening it can paralyze anyone who hears it – even Gods of Destruction. For weaker opponents like the Kais, the roar is enough to knock them unconscious, making it the most potent energy-based attack of its kind in the series.
Dragon Ball can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
