Summary
- Raphaël Colantonio is interested in working on Dishonored 3 but is focused on WolfEye Studios’ new game.
- Documents for Dishonored 3 exist, but release seems unlikely with the key creators no longer at Arkane.
- Arkane Studios is currently working on Marvel’s Blade, extending the wait for a Dishonored sequel.
In response to speculation about a possible third installment of the Dishonored series, Raphaël Colantonio (founder of Arkane Studios) has expressed interest in the project, despite his departure from Arkane in 2017 and subsequent establishment of WolfEye Studios. The beloved game Dishonored remains close to his heart.
Back in 2012, I found myself immersed in the original Dishonored, a remarkable action-stealth game that stood out with its multiple problem-solving approaches and a captivating gothic atmosphere that still resonates today. Its sequel, which followed in 2016, only served to strengthen my admiration for this unique franchise. However, since the spin-off, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, in 2017, it seems the series has been on a brief hiatus. While Arkane Studios’ 2021 release, Deathloop, shares the same universe, it wasn’t marketed as an extension of the Dishonored franchise.
During an episode of the Quad Damage podcast, Arkane Studios founder Raphaël Colantonio expressed a possibility that might excite fans: “I find the idea intriguing, and to be honest, we’re just brainstorming at this stage… I could envision myself working on a potential Dishonored 3 project since it’s been quite some time. Why not revisit it?” However, enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the next installment of Dishonored should remain patient. Colantonio’s current studio, WolfEye Studios, is focusing on developing its own game at the moment, and there’s no indication that he will ever return to Arkane Studios, making his comments purely speculative.
Arkane Founder Would “Love To” Work on Dishonored 3
Colantonio confirmed that there were plans for Dishonored 3, adding, “I, Harvey Smith, and Dinga Bakaba all had ideas for Dishonored 3. Dinga is now in charge of Arkane Studios, where I collaborated with Harvey on the original Dishonored game. So yes, we have concepts, but it might not be wise to discuss them just yet. As for which of these plans may become a reality, it seems like speculation at this point.
Since Harvey Smith and Raphaël Colantonio are no longer with Arkane Studios, it seems unlikely that their vision for Dishonored 3 will ever materialize. At present, the studio is focusing on Marvel’s Blade, which was initially announced at the end of 2023. While there’s a possibility that Arkane may revisit its gothic stealth-action series in the future, the current gap between mainline sequels could stretch to more than a decade.
