The father of Rod and Uri Reiss is a key figure we don’t see much of in the story, but he perfectly embodies Karl Fritz’s beliefs. He blindly followed the first king’s idea of avoiding conflict, even though he had immense power. His sons repeatedly tried to convince him to change his ways, but he would punish them for it. Ultimately, he gave the power of the Founding Titan to Uri Reiss.

Frieda Reiss

Frieda Reiss briefly ruled as the leader with the power of the Titans after her uncle, Uri, passed it down to her. Before gaining this immense power, she was known as a gentle and caring person, especially devoted to her sister, Historia. However, becoming the Founding Titan meant she, like others before her, became bound by the will of the first king, Karl Fritz. When Grisha Yeager attempted to persuade Frieda to help protect his people from the Titans, she almost agreed, but the first king’s influence ultimately took over. This led to a battle where Grisha defeated and killed Frieda, taking the Founding Titan’s power and combining it with his own Attack Titan. Rod Reiss believed Frieda lost not because of a lack of power, but because she was inexperienced and couldn’t fully utilize the Founder’s abilities.

Uri Reiss

Like his brother, Uri hoped to save people from the Titans. However, even with the powerful ability he inherited, he couldn’t find a way. Despite his strength and status, people remembered him as kind and modest. This was clear when Kenny attacked him – instead of retaliating, Uri forgave Kenny and even apologized, understanding that past actions had caused suffering for the Ackerman family. Uri believed the world would eventually be destroyed and wanted to build a peaceful future for humanity before that happened.

Karl Fritz

Karl Fritz was the 145th king of Eldia and a central figure in the story of Attack on Titan. After a long war between Eldia and Marley, he came to believe that the Eldian people were deserving of punishment. As a result, he led his people to Paradis Island, built massive walls around it, and wiped their memories to cut them off from the outside world. He even allowed the Titans sent by Marley to roam freely, believing his people’s suffering was justified. This mindset persisted for generations, and both those on Paradis Island and the Eldians who remained in Marley faced immense hardship and discrimination, with many being exploited for war.

Grisha Yeager

Grisha Yeager was Eren’s father and a key figure in setting Eren’s plans in motion. He grew up in Marley and experienced discrimination against people of Eldian descent from a young age. He was deeply affected by the violence he witnessed, especially the death of his sister, which fueled his anger. He later joined a group called the Eldian Restorationists, but his son, Zeke, turned him in. Just before he was transformed into a mindless Titan, Eren Kruger rescued him and gave him the power of the Attack Titan, along with the mission to obtain the Founding Titan.

It’s absolutely mind-blowing to think about Grisha’s battle with Frieda! He managed to take the Founding Titan, and then, incredibly, passed it on to Eren along with the Attack Titan. But the biggest twist? A lot of what Grisha did was actually influenced by Eren… from the future! It turns out Grisha couldn’t bring himself to harm children, but Eren, somehow reaching back in time, pushed him to do what needed to be done. It completely changes how you see that whole confrontation!

Ymir Fritz

Around 2,000 years before the story of Attack on Titan begins, a girl named Ymir became the very first Titan. King Fritz took advantage of her power, using her to fight in wars and expand the Eldian empire. When she died protecting him, her body was used to pass her Titan abilities onto her three daughters. Even after death, Ymir continued to serve King Fritz, existing within the Coordinate and creating countless Titans.

I watched as this incredible story unfolded. This woman, bound by the will of King Fritz, could only lend her powers to those with royal lineage. But everything shifted when Eren came along. He didn’t see her as a tool, but as a person with her own desires. He argued for her free will, and somehow, that resonated with her, allowing her to choose to give Eren her power. It was a powerful moment. Later, witnessing Mikasa end Eren’s life finally broke the hold King Fritz—and the toxic cycle of their connection—had on her, ultimately lifting the curse of the Titans.

Eren Yeager

Eren Yeager is widely considered the most powerful and significant user of the Founding Titan. The traumatic death of his mother when he was young fueled his desire for both revenge and freedom. While he inherited the Founding Titan from his father, he couldn’t fully unlock its power until he encountered Dina Fritz. This ability then granted him complete control over the Pure Titans.

During the final moments of Season 3, when Eren touched Historia’s hand – as she was royal – he experienced visions of the past and future, fundamentally altering his outlook. Accepting that he couldn’t alter fate, he proceeded with a plan to devastate the world. Using the Founding Titan’s power, he unleashed the Colossal Titans from Paradis’ walls, causing widespread destruction. Throughout everything, Eren kept his true intentions secret, and his real thoughts and conversations weren’t known until after he died.
