Animal Crossing: New Horizons Gets Brand-New Update

On April 13th, to celebrate its 25th anniversary, a new update (version 3.0.3) for Animal Crossing: New Horizons was released. This Nintendo Switch game is the newest in the popular Animal Crossing series, where you play as a person living among animal neighbors. It’s a relaxing life simulation game where you can make friends, pay off debts, and build your dream home. The charming style and laid-back gameplay of Animal Crossing: New Horizons made it incredibly popular, becoming the best-selling game in the series and one of the most successful games on the Nintendo Switch.

I can’t believe Nintendo is still updating Animal Crossing: New Horizons after all this time! It’s been six years since the game first came out, and they haven’t just been fixing bugs. Back in January, they dropped a huge version 3.0 update – the first big content addition since the Happy Home Paradise DLC back in 2021. It added a whole new hotel feature with tickets, tons of new furniture, and support for amiibo villagers. It even came out around the same time as a Switch upgrade pack, which was cool. And just recently, with the 3.0.2 update, they added a leaf statue to celebrate the Animal Crossing series turning 25! It’s awesome to see them continuing to support the game like this.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 3.0.3 Makes the Leaf Statue Permanently Available

If you didn’t get the leaf statue during the Animal Crossing anniversary event, don’t worry – it’s now available for purchase anytime in the Nook Shopping catalog! Nintendo confirmed in a recent update that everyone can buy it, even if they missed it during the event. The statue is shaped like the iconic leaf logo of the series and will glow when you interact with it. This update also fixed a problem where some items weren’t showing up correctly in your storage or the hotel catalog.

It’s great to see continued support for the game, even with smaller updates like this one. Because New Horizons runs on a real-time calendar and clock, it’s easy to miss out on special events and items if you can’t play regularly or simply forget. Making the leaf statue available permanently is a welcome change, even if it seems minor. While fans likely shouldn’t anticipate updates as substantial as version 3.0, its release alongside the upgrade pack suggests it was a special event designed to highlight the New Horizons update for the Switch 2.

Nintendo celebrated the anniversary with more than just the leaf statue. They also added the original GameCube Animal Crossing soundtrack to Nintendo Music on April 13th. With the anniversary now behind us, fans are hoping Nintendo might eventually add the GameCube game itself to the Nintendo Switch Online library.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 3.0.3 Patch Notes:

  • The 25th Anniversary item leaf statue is now available for purchase from the Nook Shopping furniture catalog.
  • Even players who have not previously obtained the leaf statue will now see it in their catalog.
  • The price of the leaf statue has also been adjusted with this update.
  • Fixed an issue where images for some items would not display when opening your home storage or the hotel room decoration catalog.
