The Steam game store is constantly getting new independent titles, and it’s usually pretty easy to see what inspired them. We’re seeing a lot of games like The Sims, many trying to be the next challenging action RPG in the style of Soulslike games, and a ton taking inspiration from Zelda. But a new Zeldainspired game called Farever is adding something different: it combines the climbing and gliding of Breath of the Wild with the cooperative monster hunting gameplay that’s become so popular. Considering how well those kinds of games are doing right now, Farever is launching at a perfect moment.
Dauntless was a more approachable version of Monster Hunter, letting players defeat large creatures called Behemoths with quick, action-packed battles. Though initially popular – as not everyone enjoys Monster Hunter’s lengthy tracking, deliberate combat, and repetitive gameplay – Dauntless ultimately closed down like many online games. Monster Hunter Wilds had a good start, but a lack of new content caused many players to lose interest while waiting for expansions. Whether they’re Monster Hunter players looking for something fresh, Dauntless fans missing that game, or even Zelda enthusiasts seeking a different experience, many gamers might find Steam’s Farever appealing.
Per the Farever Steam page, the game is set to launch on May 6, 2026.

Farever is an Action RPG Full of Creatures to Fight and Tame
Although you can definitely enjoy exploring the world of Farever on your own, the game truly comes alive when played with a team. Similar to Monster Hunter, players have access to a wide variety of weapons – everything from torches that shoot flames to bows and quick, combo-focused daggers, reminiscent of Dauntless. But what really sets Farever apart is how well players can combine their unique skills to work together and take down monsters effectively.
Beyond the many possible combinations of character classes and weapon skills, players in Farever can also focus on individual professions. Each player chooses a gathering skill and then searches for specific items – perhaps ancient relics – that might be different from what their teammates are looking for. Once found, these items can be crafted into unique gear tailored to their class, allowing players to customize their character and playstyle. A group could include spellcasters, warriors with torches, archers, and swordsmen, creating diverse and exciting combat experiences.
Similar to the Monster Hunter games, players will face enormous creatures – everything from giant insects and stone giants to massive crabs. However, not every creature is an enemy; some can be ridden as mounts or used to glide across the landscape. Exploring the grassy plains by floating above them, and climbing seemingly impossible cliffs, will feel familiar to fans of Breath of the Wild. The game’s art style is a blend of recent Zelda titles and Dauntless, and the combat mixes elements of both Dauntless and Monster Hunter. This combination of influences aims to create a unique experience with a lot of replay value, hopefully taking the best parts of all three games.
Farever Could Be the Gift That Keeps on Giving
When Farever launches in early access on May 6th, it will already include all of the features currently planned. The year-long early access period will focus on expanding and improving what’s already available, with additions like seasonal events, world activities, and a guild system. Players can also expect to see even more content added over time.
- More regions and biomes
- More basic enemies and bosses
- More dungeons
- A level cap increase
- Additional weapons and items
- Additional classes and skills
- Additional skins, gliders, and mounts for customization
Like many games available in Steam’s early access program, the price of Farever will likely go up as the developers, Shiro Games, add more content. If you’re excited about the game and want to support them, it’s best to buy it now to get the lowest price.
