Shonen Jump Plus Announces Its First-Ever Exhibition

Summary

  • Shonen Jump Plus offers free, uncensored manga
  • Manga Plus features hit titles like One Piece
  • Continued success will lead to more investment in improving the apps.

As someone who has been following the manga industry for decades, I must say that Shonen Jump Plus is nothing short of revolutionary. Having grown up with stacks of manga volumes and empty pockets due to their expense, it’s heartwarming to see such a platform that offers free, uncensored manga to millions worldwide.

The Shonen Jump Plus platform significantly benefited both the manga industry and its enthusiasts, serving as a tremendous boon. By offering a chance for individuals worldwide to access fresh manga at no cost, it has fundamentally transformed the industry.

Launched on September 22, 2014, Shonen Jump Plus (also known as Shonen Jump+) debuted with over 30 titles initially. Over time, the platform has grown into a noteworthy success story, and next year it will commemorate its 10th anniversary with a special event. This event will feature a unique exhibition, which is scheduled to take place in April 2025.

The History Of Shonen Jump Plus

Before launching Shonen Jump Plus, Shueisha introduced a different online platform named Jump LIVE. This app garnered immense popularity and recorded more than one million downloads. Nevertheless, Shueisha chose to discontinue it as they felt it was overcrowded. The issue lay in the fact that there were too many titles available, making it difficult to differentiate between free and paid content.

Ultimately, Shueisha introduced Shonen Jump Plus in September 2014, which quickly gained popularity over Jump LIVE due to fewer restrictions. This allowed for the publication of content featuring violence and gore without censorship. By 2017, Weekly Shonen Jump began serializing manga that had previously been published on Shonen Jump+.

How Shonen Jump Plus Went Global

Manga Plus, a worldwide adaptation of Shonen Jump Plus, debuted in January 2019, with the concept initially proposed two years prior. It wasn’t until later that this idea became a reality. The executives at Shueisha envisioned that the application would draw in a larger fanbase, which would significantly boost the popularity of the comic series published on it.

Swiftly and widely acclaimed, Manga Plus has garnered global recognition. Among its many popular titles accessible for reading include:

  • Kaiju No. 8
  • Spy x Family
  • One Piece
  • Chainsaw Man
  • Hell’s Paradise

Aside from these manga, there are a ton of other titles that fans can enjoy free of charge.

With growing recognition for Shonen Jump Plus and Manga Plus, Shueisha is likely to boost investments in these applications. This enhancement will aim at refining the user interface and expanding the selection of titles available on the apps. Currently, both platforms are performing well on Google Play Store and Apple App Store, having amassed millions of downloads.

Shonen Jump Plus and Manga Plus are available to download.
