As a die-hard fan of both Overwatch 2 and Avatar: The Last Airbender, I must say that this upcoming crossover event has me absolutely thrilled! The way Blizzard has been incorporating various pop culture references into their game through these collaboration events is just fantastic. It’s like they’ve taken the essence of my childhood memories and infused them into the world of Overwatch 2, creating a unique blend that I never thought possible.
In the spirit of regular updates and ongoing gameplay, Overwatch 2 frequently alters several facets of the game, including temporary game modes, in-game events, chances for challenges, rewards, Battle Pass themes, and much more. One method they utilize to introduce fresh cosmetics for beloved characters is through recent collaborative event partnerships, which started a few Competitive seasons into Overwatch 2 and have since been featured on a seasonal basis.
These crossover collaboration events feature a limited-time opportunity to claim special cosmetics, weapon charms, profile decorations, voice lines, and more featuring Overwatch heroes/villains and their take on cosplaying certain characters from various games, anime, and other pop culture names and franchises. Previously, these events have included the likes of One Punch Man, K-pop group LE SSERAFIM, Cowboy Bebop, Transformers, and more. With Overwatch 2’s Season 14 arriving in December 2024, a new crossover event is set to go live at some point, featuring Avatar: The Last Airbender. Everything you need to know about this collaboration event and all featured characters who are receiving new skins has been included in the guide below.
All Overwatch 2 + Avatar: The Last Airbender Crossover Collab Skins
In Overwatch 2, the highly anticipated collaboration with Avatar: The Last Airbender is scheduled to start on December 17, 2024. Similar to other events, this one will introduce a collection of hero skins, featuring characters from Overwatch dressed as characters from ATLA. Additionally, there will be challenges during the event that, if completed, grant extra Battle Pass XP and rewards. Here’s a sneak peek at all the Avatar: The Last Airbender + Overwatch 2 crossover skin ideas:
Aang Zenyatta
If there was any character that suited an Aang-themed cosmetic, it’s definitely Zenyatta. After all, this guy literally floats around with his feet tucked up, just like the pose Aang uses when he sits on his Air Scooter. On top of that, Zenyatta is a very peaceful monk with a calm, tranquil personality and tone, much like the older monks who lived on the Air Temple Islands where Aang grew up. It goes without saying that this is definitely one of the best recent Zenyatta cosmetics, especially on the chance that his bundle may include an Air Scooter emote.
Appa Orisa
Is Aang truly Aang without his giant fluffy Sky Bison companion, Appa, by his side? It’s fortunate that Appa joined the cast of Overwatch 2 x Avatar: The Last Airbender crossover event, appearing as a cosmetic for Orisa, the Omnic Tank. This skin seems to fit Orisa quite well, much like many of her animal and creature-inspired skins have in the past. It’s exciting to speculate about what kind of emotes or highlight intros might accompany this one, given that Appa is known for flying through the sky.
Katara Mei
Mei is almost an ideal candidate to receive a cosmetic inspired by Katara, given her blue attire, resemblance of ice powers like Katara’s Water Bending, and the similarities in their abilities such as creating water bullets/darts, water splash/spray, and water walls. Mei’s characteristics align nicely with elements of Katara’s outfit, hairstyle, and Southern Water Tribe attire, so any additional themed items or attention-grabbing introductions for this cosmetic would only enhance the experience further.
Toph Venture
After a long wait without any new content, it’s been announced that Venture will soon get their second hero skin, offering a fresh look beyond the standard or Ice Cream skins. This time around, they’ll be adopting the character of Toph, a fitting choice given Venture’s underground burrowing ability and Toph being an Earth Bender who learned from creatures that tunnel underground, the Badgermoles.
Suki Kiriko
If there was a character who Kiriko would suit for a skin (other than Mai), then Suki is about as close as it gets. While Mai uses weaponry, Suki is more involved across each ark and is a member of the Gaang, just like every other character found in these crossover skins. As Suki is a Kiyoshi Warrior who utilizes melee tools and weaponry such as fans and a katana rather than a bending style, she suits Kiriko and her use of Kunai relatively well. Plus, both have extensive training in their martial arts with Kiriko’s upbringing and training from her mother and Suki’s dedication to the Kiyoshi Warriors.
Zuko Genji
Last but certainly not least, there’s Genji taking on a cosmetic for Prince Zuko. Much like the others, these characters share quite a few similarities, both having troubled pasts with a transition to a more peace-oriented, good-aligned role in their society or organization. On top of this, both Zuko and Genji wield swords, so it would be a nice addition to see Genji’s Dragonblade, usually Green, take on a fiery orange or red glow to reference Zuko’s Firebending.
