Elden Ring Nightreign Can Only be Played Solo or as a Trio

As a long-time fan of FromSoftware games, I must say I am both excited and perplexed by the news about Elden Ring Nightreign. On one hand, the prospect of teaming up with two friends to conquer this new world is enticing. The sense of camaraderie and shared accomplishment in overcoming tough challenges has always been a highlight of FromSoftware’s games for me.

Nightreign adventure alone or in a group of three.

According to an interview with IGN, Ishizaki shared that Elden Ring Nightreign is primarily designed for a team of three players, although it’s possible to play on your own if you prefer. However, it’s important to note that there are no plans to allow players to experience the game as a duo in its current design.

Junya Ishizaki: This game is primarily intended for a team of three players, but it’s also possible for one person to enjoy it on their own.

IGN: Oh, great. Or in a pair?

Junya Ishizaki: No, it’s either one-player or three-player.

Later on, Ishizaki explained, “Our choice for a three-player focus was driven by the desire to preserve the satisfaction you feel from defeating a boss as a team or conquering a map together, and to recreate that joy in a unique manner. We believed that concentrating on a three-player cooperative experience would offer a fresh sense of achievement.

In 2025, it’s expected that Elden Ring Nightreign will be made available for play. From January 10 onwards, interested players can sign up and register to take part in the pre-release testing of the game.

FromSoftware and Bandai Namco announced that the ‘network test’ is an initial check to ensure the game works smoothly before its official release. This involves some players getting early access to a part of the game. The test also includes checking the online systems through extensive network load tests.
