Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Anti-Cheat Did Not Meet Activision’s Expectations in Season 1

As a long-time gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say I find myself somewhat disheartened by the persistent issue of cheaters in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6‘s Ranked Mode. It seems like every time I log in to play, I’m met with an unwelcome adversary – not another player, but a cheater. It’s as if Twitter has become a support group for frustrated gamers, with the official Call of Duty account echoing our collective cries for a cleaner gaming environment.

Regardless of Activision’s diligent attempts, players have encountered problems due to cheaters disrupting the Ranked Mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

In November, the highly competitive multiplayer mode for the game debuted during Season 1, and despite its phenomenal popularity, players are expressing frustration over widespread cheating. It seems like nearly every post by the official Call of Duty account on X (formerly known as Twitter) is flooded with complaints about in-game cheaters.

In a blog post on the official Call of Duty website, Activision acknowledges that their RICOCHET Anti-Cheat didn’t meet expectations when it was initially rolled out at the start of the season. The team explains that the anti-cheat measures functioned effectively during the Black Ops 6 launch, enabling them to concentrate on readying for the game’s inaugural season. They’ve been diligently working to improve their systems and assert that they are better prepared today with the updates they’ve made.

The team is focused on ensuring they “deliver the competitive arena our players seek.”

All of the Updates for Anti-Cheat in Call of Duty Black Ops 6

The blog post details the three updates the dev team has done to help make Season 1 a better place for their fans:

  • Upgrades & Accounts: Account bans are now happening hourly due to increased velocity from several RICOCHET Anti-Cheat systems, this in addition to the over 19,000 accounts we’ve removed recently. These updates to our systems mean enforcement response times are now quicker than they have ever been.
  • Leaderboards: The cleanup process has been updated for faster synchronization of leaderboard changes.
  • Investigations: We have significantly expanded our Replay Investigation render farm – the machines used to generate clips for examination. We’ve also ramped up the group dedicated to manually review clips (based on a priority order that favors detections). In the last several weeks, the Replay tool updates have been highly effective at validating detections and reports, providing further training for AI systems for the anti-cheat team, and removing cheaters.

They continue:

Our approach involves intensifying the pace at which we deal with individuals who manage to bypass our initial checks, effectively weedding out numerous unscrupulous players before they can enter the game. We employ a combination of tools such as manual reviews, kernel driver detection to prevent memory manipulation, client-side and server-side detections to identify suspect activity, and artificial intelligence systems to swiftly remove illicit accounts from the game.

As a gamer, I’m excited about the upcoming enhancements to our RICOCHET Anti-Cheat systems! In the coming seasons, we’re working tirelessly to roll out significant updates, including a revamped kernel-level driver and cutting-edge server-side safeguards. Stay tuned for more details as we approach Season 02 and Season 03 launches.

In other news related to “Call of Duty”, they are currently hosting a free multiplayer event that runs until December 20th. Additionally, developers Treyarch have shown enthusiasm for reintroducing fan-favorite maps from previous “Call of Duty” titles.

Regardless of any problems found in Season 1, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 holds the record for the most successful debut in the series’ history.
