What to Expect From Marvel and DC Games in 2025

As someone who has been following the video game industry for over two decades now, I must say that the current landscape is nothing short of fascinating. The anticipation and excitement surrounding the upcoming releases this year are palpable, and I can’t help but feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

Over the past several years, Marvel Games have been on a remarkable trajectory. The LEGO Marvel Superheroes games provided delightful family-oriented escapades, the Insomniac Spider-Man series has consistently raised the bar for superhero video games, Guardians of the Galaxy boasted excellent storytelling, and Marvel Rivals, within its initial weeks, has already garnered more than 20 million players, signifying a significant achievement.

Despite some setbacks, DC isn’t having its best run. However, there’s a glimmer of hope with the game Batman: Arkham Shadow, which stands out like a lighthouse in a stormy sea of underperformers. Unfortunately, games such as Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League have dealt DC a tough one-two punch, missing their sales targets significantly. It appears that 2025 may see quite a change in fortunes for Marvel and DC Games.

Marvel Games Could Have a Busy 2025

Marvel Rivals Will Keep Receiving New Content in 2025

The latest triumph from Marvel, titled “Marvel Rivals“, is making waves as a six-versus-six hero shooter game. Modeled after games such as “Fortnite“, this fresh addition to the gaming world is just getting started, with its next phase commencing in January 2025. While specifics about the upcoming season’s content remain undisclosed at present, the developer, NetEase, has hinted that new characters, locations, and game modes will be added to “Marvel Rivals” through future updates.

It’s anticipated that the game known as Marvel Rivals will carry on delivering fresh content throughout the year 2025. The ongoing season, referred to as Season 0, is roughly half the usual length for a season. This implies that fans can look forward to Season 1 of Marvel Rivals lasting approximately 2-3 months. As such, they can anticipate around 4-5 seasons’ worth of content in total for the year 2025.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra Has a TBC 2025 Release Window

Back in October 2021, Skydance New Media unveiled a fresh collaboration with Marvel games on a new project. Then, in September 2022, we got our first glimpse into this Marvel endeavor through its debut trailer, hinting at a World War II backdrop and featuring Black Panther and Captain America as the main characters. More recently, in March of this year, an engaging story trailer was released, showcasing Unreal Engine 5’s capabilities, and the project was officially named Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra.

As an enthusiastic fan, I’m excitedly looking forward to the general release window of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra in 2025. While there’s a possibility it might be pushed back from its initial schedule, rest assured, we can anticipate seeing at least a gameplay trailer for Marvel 1943 next year.

EA Could Reveal Its Two Marvel Games in 2025

In September 2022, EA Motive disclosed they were developing an Iron Man video game. Later, in July 2023, EA teamed up with Marvel again, this time revealing Cliffhanger Games was making a standalone Black Panther game. Since their announcements, there haven’t been many updates about either project. However, it looks like fans may get to see a sneak peek of at least one of these games in 2025, possibly EA Motive’s Iron Man, as they reached a significant milestone within the studio in April.

2025 Could Finally Be The Year of Insomniac’s Wolverine

During the PlayStation Showcase in September 2021, Marvel’s Wolverine was announced alongside Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. However, it’s been over three years since any official update about this game has been provided. The Insomniac hack in December 2023 led to early versions of the game being shared and some story details being disclosed, but Insomniac Games hasn’t made any formal comments regarding the game’s narrative, mechanics, or release date. Here’s hoping that fans will get a new trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine in 2025.

Marvel’s Blade Could Get Another Trailer in 2025

Last year at the Game Awards, it was revealed that Arkane Lyon is working on Marvel’s Blade. The exact stage of development for Marvel’s Blade isn’t known yet, but there’s a possibility that fans might get another trailer for this game in 2025.

DC Will Probably Have a Much Quieter 2025

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Gets Its Final Update in 2025

Originally intended as a triumphant comeback of Rocksteady to the DC universe, “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” unfortunately became one of the year’s most disheartening letdowns. Despite having a persistently small number of players, “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” has continued to receive post-release updates, introducing new characters every couple of months. However, Season 4 will mark its final update.

The long-awaited fourth season of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is now in progress, with Deathstroke joining the playable characters. An update for this game is scheduled for January 14, 2025, marking the final update for Suicide Squad. Rocksteady Studios has confirmed that the servers will continue to operate even after the updates cease, and thanks to a newly added offline mode, players can still enjoy Suicide Squad once the online servers are eventually shut down.

The Wolf Among Us 2 Could Finally Rear its Head in 2025

The path for The Wolf Among Us 2 has been a rocky and protracted one. It was initially unveiled at the 2019 Game Awards, but a trailer wasn’t shown until 2022. In early 2023, Telltale Games announced that the sequel would be postponed to 2024, aiming to prevent excessive overtime work. However, in October of the same year, Telltale also underwent significant staff reductions.

At San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2017, the news of a second season for The Wolf Among Us was officially announced, but unfortunately, its production was halted when Telltale Games initially shut down in 2018.

In April 2024, Geoff Keighley shared four new images of the upcoming game, The Wolf Among Us 2, indicating that it was still being worked on. However, since then, there’s been no further news about it. It’s possible that 2025 could be the year when fans get to buy this game, but the outlook for the sequel remains quite unpredictable.

Monolith’s Wonder Woman Probably Won’t Make a Reappearance in 2025

For some time now, there has been anticipation for another DC game developed by Monolith, specifically the Wonder Woman game. This project was initially unveiled at the 2021 Game Awards, but since then, official updates have been scarce. Apart from a few leaked concept art pieces and whispers about it being a live-service game that were later debunked, there has been no further communication from DC and Monolith. Lately, information from Jason Schreier hints that the development of Monolith’s Wonder Woman didn’t truly commence until after its announcement, implying that fans might not get substantial updates on it for a while yet.
