Best Team Comps With Magneto
As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent in the Marvel Rivals universe, I can confidently say that Magneto is a formidable force to be reckoned with. His unique abilities make him a valuable asset to any team, but like any character, he has his strengths and weaknesses.
The X-Men boast some of the most skillfully crafted characters within Marvel Comics. At certain instances, these characters can be extraordinarily overpowered. Magneto is an example of an Omega-level mutant, possessing abilities that stretch as far as wielding Mjölnir in the Ultimate universe.
If you’re a fan of him, this could be an exciting opportunity! You get to play as Magneto in the Marvel Rivals game. Keep in mind that he carries a 2-star challenge level.
His skills primarily revolve around defense, involving the strategic placement of shields or barriers to deflect incoming attacks from adversaries. Additionally, he can reinforce the protection of his teammates by providing them with personal shields or fortify his own defenses in similar fashion.
That doesn’t mean he is a meager bullet sponge, with the right use of his abilities. You can not only secure the objective but also get a lot of kills and, eventually, even MVP.
If you’re planning on starting a fresh Vanguard character using Magneto, let me share some useful advice to enhance your gameplay:
Magneto Abilities Explained
If you’ve previously played or are familiar with the character Sigma in Overwatch 2, you might find it less challenging to adapt to Magneto, as his abilities could feel quite similar due to your prior experience.
Absolutely, there’s no direct equivalence between him and others, and I’d like to explain the unique aspects of his skills as well as how they function.
Ability | Description |
---|---|
Iron Volley | Shoot a volley of magnetic orbs at the enemies in front of you. The further away you are from your enemy when it hits, the more its AoE explosion range increases. |
Mag-Cannon | Magneto uses the Iron rings on his back as a metallic mass and launches a cannon forward. Having more rings increases its damage and having all four rings will knock back the enemies. |
Metallic Curtain | Use it to create a magnetic barrier in front of Magneto to block all incoming projectiles. |
Metal Bulwark | Create a shield around an ally. When this shield takes damage the rings on your back will generate faster. |
Iron Bulwark | Create a shield around yourself. Similar to Metal Bulwark taking damage generates rings on your back quickly. |
Magnetic Descent | Hold the jump button to fall slowly. |
Meteor M | Magneto uses his powers and draws materials from within a range to create an Iron Meteor. The longer you wait the stronger it gets and will even absorb enemy projectiles. Launch it to deal massive damage to the target. Overloading the Iron Meteor will cause it to self-destruct. |
Magneto Offensive Strategies
Magneto’s powers may seem straightforward, yet managing them according to different circumstances can sometimes prove tricky.
This weapon’s main shots are quite sluggish and after firing ten rounds, it requires reloading. Therefore, it’s crucial to master the timing for employing Iron Volley and switching to Mag-Cannon for optimal attacks.
Here are some fundamental yet powerful tactics that can enable you to win battles and maintain or secure your position in the objective area.
- Predict and shoot slightly ahead: Magneto’s primary and alt fires both have a little delay. Since most enemies won’t be sitting ducks waiting to get attacked by you. You need to practice a lot of pre-aiming and predicting your enemy’s movements to land your shots successfully.
- Take mid-range to close-up fights: For up to 20 meters, Magneto’s Iron Volley does the most damage. It drops off after 25 meters and does absolutely nothing once you reach the 30-meter range. While the abilities in-game description says the explosion increases based on the distance flown, it is generally a better idea to take medium-range fights.
- Mag-Cannon has two visual cues: The ability’s in-game description says it converts the rings on Magneto’s back into a metallic mass. While that is true, a better way to track when Mag-Cannon is at full power is to check the 3 upward arrows-like symbol. Once that meter is full, your Mag-Cannon will do the most damage and even knock back the enemies.
- Use Mag-Cannon on low-health enemies: A full-powered Mag-Cannon can chip away almost 1/3rd of most duelist enemies’ health bar. As such, you shouldn’t open your attacks with it. Try luring your enemies into attacking you and spam them with your Iron Vollies. Once you see them nearing 33% health, use your alt-fire, and you should be able to secure yourself a kill.
- Meteor M can be destroyed: Magneto has quite a powerful ultimate, but it can be easily wasted depending on the situation. Meteor M needs a few seconds to reach its maximum damage potential. However, you can shoot it early, so make sure you don’t panic, as shooting it early won’t do much damage to the enemy, let alone kill them. Another thing to remember is it absorbs enemy projectiles. So, while that does make it stronger, an enemy like the Punisher can destroy it with their ultimate if you don’t use it in time. Notice the white circle that starts depleting when you use your ultimate and shoot the meteor early if an enemy starts attacking you.
Magneto Defensive Strategies
Players with strong aiming skills should find that handling defense isn’t too challenging when using Magneto. He boasts a respectable health reserve and a variety of skills that allow him to absorb a fair amount of damage.
Yet, it’s important to remember that Magneto isn’t indestructible; he has no special abilities for evasion. This means you should be aware of certain strategies when defending with him.
- Metallic Curtain lasts based on the duration of its meter: Metallic Curtain, when used properly, can be a great ability, especially against enemies like the Punisher or Star-Lord, who can barrage you with gunfire. This barrier also has a relatively short cooldown of 3 seconds. But you shouldn’t spam it as soon as it is available. Check the meter on the right when you use it to see how long you will be able to hold the barrier.
- Situationally use Metal or Iron Bulwark: This is another excellent ability that lets you briefly protect yourself from virtually all enemy attacks. But this ability has a long 12-second cooldown. Additionally, if you use the shield on yourself, you won’t be able to put it on an ally and vice versa. As such, you will need a lot of team awareness and will have to hold onto it to see who needs it the most.
- Mag-Cannon pushes the enemy away: Magneto doesn’t have any form of dashes or flashy teleportations to escape ambush attacks. However, that doesn’t mean it is impossible to retreat from the enemy. You can use your Mag-Cannon when it is fully charged with all four rings and start escaping. If the enemy is still on your tail, and you have Iron Bulwark then it should buy you enough time to get to a nearby health kit or your team’s healer.
- Your Greatsword can be a lifesaver: Seeing how slow Magneto’s attacks can be, enemies like Iron Fist can and most likely will target you. In such situations, you don’t need to panic. Your melee attack lets you fight your enemies with a Greatsword. It does decent damage, and when playing with Scarlet Witch, you can even do powerful ranged attacks with it.
Magneto Team-Up Abilities
Team-Up | Heroes Needed | Description |
---|---|---|
Metallic Fusion | Scarlet Witch | Scarlet Witch infuses Magneto’s Greatsword with Chaos Energy. This lets you use projectile slashes while using your melee attacks. |
Magneto |
Given that Scarlet Witch is Magneto’s offspring, it seems logical that their Mutant team-up would result in an amplification of their collective strength.
When you’re guarding an objective single-handedly and airborne adversaries zero in, the Metal Fusion skill could prove quite beneficial.
Initially, you might want to activate Iron Bulwark as a protective measure, thereby guarding yourself from receiving harm. Subsequently, employ Metallic Fusion’s distant strikes to gradually deplete an opponent’s health. This could potentially compel them to withdraw for healing, allowing your team time to rejoin you and advance towards the objective.
Magneto Counters & How To Deal With Them
Magneto’s major disadvantages lie in his relatively sluggish pace and susceptibility to assaults from flanks or rear positions. His attacks, being slower than many other superheroes, increase the risk of being isolated and vulnerable when confronting adversaries.
As a gamer, I’d say these three heroes – Venom, Iron Fist, and Spider-Man – are the ones who can give Magneto the hardest time. They’re incredibly swift, and they’ve got the agility to outmaneuver his metallic defense shield. If you don’t have Iron Bulwark on your side, it makes things even tougher, as you’ll be left vulnerable to their heavy blows.
Enemies, much like Iron Man and Star-Lord in the skies, can prove quite challenging when they’re beyond your reach. In such cases, you’re essentially powerless to engage them.
In many cases, it’s challenging to stop distant heroes from attacking you. If you sense you aren’t being healed promptly, consider keeping Iron Bulwark at hand for emergencies.
Having Wanda as part of your squad grants you ‘Metallic Fusion’, an extra ranged attack option for you. Additionally, being aware of the health kit spots across the map will aid in prolonging your survival.
Best Team Comps With Magneto
In most cases, when facing off against another duelist, Magneto generally complements Scarlet Witch exceptionally well due to their synergistic abilities.
For instance, Scarlet Witch’s Reality Erasure is often challenging for her, especially when it’s charging. However, Magneto can put up a Metal Bulwark shield to safeguard her from being eliminated. In much the same way, the Metallic Fusion ability grants Magneto temporary access to long-range attacks.
For a strategist, you should go with Jeff the Land Shark. Magneto can lose his health quite easily, especially when you put your shield on another team member. As such, you will need a lot of heals, and that too quickly.
Among all players, Jeff stands out as an exceptional healer. His abilities, Joyful Splash and Healing Bubble, are swift at restoring Magneto’s health to its maximum level in a short span of time.
In summary, Venom serves as an excellent advance guard alongside Magneto. While Magneto boasts numerous skills for absorbing and withstanding enemy attacks, there’s always a risk when multiple foes target him simultaneously, which could lead to unfavorable outcomes.
As a gamer, I’ve got Venom on my team and he’s got some pretty cool moves up his sleeve! Frenzied Arrival lets him blast enemies skyward, while Cellular Corrosion slows them down. This gives Magneto the perfect opportunity to scoot back to the healer for a health boost, leaving the opponents no choice but to engage with Venom instead.
When Magneto reappears, Venom will fly off for recovery, making it difficult for the opposing team to take out either hero quickly since they’ll have to keep changing their focus between these two frontline characters.
