As someone who has followed the Dragon Ball series since its inception, I must say that the latest addition, Dragon Ball Daima, has not failed to impress. The introduction of the Tamagami, these enigmatic creatures guarding the One-Star Dragon Balls, has added a fresh twist to the familiar formula we all love.
Head’s up! What follows may reveal key plot points from Dragon Ball Daima’s Episode 10 titled “Ocean”. You can catch it on Crunchyroll right now.
The initial major hurdle for Goku in the saga of “Dragon Ball Daima” comes from the Tamagami who safeguard the Dragon Balls within the Demon Realm. Positioned in each of the three Demon Worlds, these sentinels remain erect and vigilant until a contender seeks to claim their corresponding Dragon Ball. Similar to other sets of Dragon Balls, this one was crafted by the Namekian named Neva. Once created, he fashioned the Tamagami to watch over the Dragon Balls, keeping anyone from making a wish for an extended period.
Goku already faced Tamagami Number Three in Dragon Ball Daima episode 8, “Tamagami”, who was the guardian placed in the Third Demon World, and was guarding the Three-Star Dragon Ball. Goku managed to beat it with the help of his Super Saiyan 2 form, but with Goku being in the body of a kid and all, how strong exactly was the Tamagami? How does it compare to the previous villains and rivals Goku’s had to face in the past?
They’re Stronger than Dabura
King Gomah’s Predecessor Fought the Tamagami and Lost
Up until now, aside from Goku, the character who has shown the most strength against the Tamagami is the former Demon King Dabura. In the seventh episode of “Dragon Ball Daima,” titled “Collar,” Panzy mentioned that she heard Dabura was unable to defeat the Tamagami and collect the Dragon Balls. This sentiment matches what King Gomah stated in the first episode, “Conspiracy,” where he said no one has used the Demon Realm’s Dragon Balls to make a wish for a long time.
It seems the Tamagami are more powerful than Dabura, but how does this rank them in the grand scheme of Dragon Ball power levels? In episode 227 of Dragon Ball Z, titled “Heart of a Villain”, Goku estimates that Dabura is roughly on par with Cell in terms of strength. Therefore, it can be inferred that the Tamagami may fall somewhere above Dabura and Cell in the power hierarchy.
It’s important to remember that when Goku mentioned Dabura, he was referring to a Dabura who was under Babidi’s control. This mind control not only forces people to follow orders but also significantly increases their power, as shown by Spopovich, Yamu, and Majin Vegeta. This increase means the Dabura that fought the Tamagami would have been less powerful than the one Goku was sensing. The exact percentage of power boost provided by Babidi’s spell is unknown, but it doesn’t seem to be an extreme amount, as even under its influence, Vegeta was about equal to Super Saiyan 2 Goku in strength. Therefore, it can still be considered reasonable to say that the Tamagami possess a power level comparable to Cell’s if they are stronger than Dabura without Babidi’s control.
The Tamagami Also Give Viewers a Hint of Goku’s Strength in Daima
From the onset of “Dragon Ball Daima”, it’s been hinted that Goku and the Z Fighters aren’t as potent as they once were, given their advanced age. However, when Goku confronted and overcame an adversary akin to a former antagonist, the clarity of his newfound strength in this revitalized body became undeniably apparent – from my perspective.
It seems quite evident that Goku’s power level, and by association the rest of the Z Fighters’, hasn’t suffered a significant drop. The fact that he can overcome someone as formidable as Dabura while only using Super Saiyan 2 suggests he’s nearly back to his strength during the Majin Buu era. Given that Daima takes place several months to a year post-Buu Saga, it’s reasonable to assume Goku has grown even stronger since then. This implies that being a child may have impacted his power, but not as drastically as King Gomah might have hoped.
The biggest issues with them becoming children are probably that their smaller bodies have more limited reach than their older ones and that they have to get reacquainted with how certain ki techniques work. The raw amount of ki inside them seems to have only slightly diminished.
They Might Be Stronger than They’re Putting On
At Least in the Case of Tamagami Number Three.
Despite the Tamagami appearing incredibly powerful, there remains a possibility they may not be giving their full strength against opponents. During Goku’s battle, for instance, Tamagami Number Three requested a halt after being struck by his Kamehameha wave. Though he seemed severely weakened, something about this encounter seemed suspicious. Tamagami Number Three stopped fighting only after comprehending Goku’s power, suggesting that perhaps the Tamagami were commanded to fight only up to a specific limit. Additionally, it appeared as though Tamagami Number Three could have fixed his hammer at any moment but chose not to, almost as if he wanted to evaluate Goku’s combat skills without relying on a weapon.
Indeed, you’ve got me! I yield… It seems there’s no use in going on any longer. Your strength is clear to me now.” – Tamagami Number Three to Goku (paraphrased)
Tamagami Number Two and One Might Be Stronger than Number Three
Although this new series presents a unique feel and narrative compared to its predecessors, it undeniably falls under the Dragon Ball umbrella. A hallmark of the franchise is the relentless escalation in threats, so it wouldn’t come as a shock if Tamagami Number Three was the least potent, with Two and One possessing power levels far beyond it.
In episode 10 of Dragon Ball Daima, viewers got a glimpse of Tamagami Number One’s abilities during its battle with Majin Kuu. Notably, Tamagami Number One effortlessly overpowered an individual infused with the essence of Majin Buu. While it’s conceivable that Majin Kuu might be surprisingly weak, it seems reasonable to assume that Tamagami Number One and Two possess more strength than Three.
Dragon Ball Daima is now available to stream on Crunchyroll and Netflix. The release date for Dragon Ball Daima, episode 11, is set to be December 20, 2024 at 10:00 AM PT.
