Minecraft’s Eyeblossoms Should Be a Turning Point for the Game’s Flowers

As a seasoned Minecrafter with countless hours spent exploring and cultivating virtual landscapes, I find the latest addition of the Eyeblossom to be nothing short of a game-changer. The versatility of this flower, from its intriguing visual appeal to its diverse uses, has breathed new life into my in-game adventures.

In the diverse terrains and sprawling, cubic settings of Minecraft, a variety of flora is scattered. This ranges from common oak trees, weeds, to rarer sweet berry bushes and melons. These plants serve multiple purposes for players, such as providing building materials, food, embellishments, and more. However, flowers, although useful for creating dyes or attracting bees for honey farms, are often used merely as decoration or disregarded altogether by many players. Despite these uses, a new type of flower could potentially revolutionize the role of flowers in Minecraft: the eyeblossom.

The Pale Garden’s Eyeblossoms Explained

In the final quarter of 2024, Mojang unveiled a fresh biome named Pale Garden, initially showcased at Minecraft LIVE 2024. This biome is characterized by a dense forest dominated by dark gray pale oak trees, foliage, and thick, trailing moss. It’s a barren landscape where only monsters, not animal mobs, appear to spawn, including the Creaking, which can only attack players when they’re not focused on the mob and will otherwise remain motionless. Notable additions in this biome include creaking hearts, resin clumps, and an intriguing element: eyeblossom flowers.

Native only to the Pale Garden, eyeblossoms are tiny flowers that blend seamlessly with the pale oak trees and hanging moss during daylight. They appear as simple gray blossoms under sunlight, but at nightfall, they unfurl into an “x” shape, revealing a vibrant orange center, much like the eyes of the Creaking creature to keep players on their toes. Mojang meticulously crafted the eyeblossom to resemble the orange eyes of the Creaker. Moreover, when placed upon moss blocks, these flowers emit faint whispers of sound. Eyeblossoms are responsive, so if one opens, others nearby will follow suit. They can also be utilized for creating orange and gray dyes, poison bees, and in recipes for ominous stews.

A New Minecraft Blooming Flower Update

In Minecraft, you can pick and plant a variety of 20 distinct flower types at the moment. These include:

  • Alliums
  • Azure Bluets
  • Blue Orchids
  • Cornflowers
  • Dandelions
  • Eyeblossoms
  • Lilacs
  • Lilies of the Valley
  • Orange Tulips
  • Oxeye Daisies
  • Peonies
  • Pink Tulips
  • Pitcher Plants
  • Poppies
  • Red Tulips
  • Rose Bushes
  • Sunflowers
  • Torchflowers
  • White Tulips
  • Wither Roses

Considering the diverse uses and capabilities of eyeblossoms, it would be beneficial for Mojang to expand upon this theme by either introducing new flowers with similar traits or upgrading existing ones with additional features. Particular attention should be given to torchflower seeds and pitcher plants, which could greatly benefit from an eyeblossom-inspired update. These two plants are exceptionally scarce and challenging to obtain within Minecraft, as they can only be discovered by Sniffers, whose eggs can exclusively be found in suspicious sand from warm ocean ruins. Upon hatching and maturing Sniffers, they can detect both torchflower seeds and pitcher pods, which can then be cultivated into torchflowers and pitcher plants. However, both the torchflower and pitcher plant currently have limited applications despite their scarcity.

Pitcher plants can be used to create cyan dye, increase the chances of beehives growing trees with bee nests, and serve as interesting decor with a bit of an optical illusion. Torchflowers can be used to create orange dye, suspicious stew that generates a five-second-long night vision effect, and to breed Sniffers. Many players were disappointed over the lack of features connected to the torchflower and pitcher plants given how difficult they are to acquire. Mojang could rectify this issue by giving the two plants more unique abilities, such as the pitcher plant being able to collect rainwater and serve as a natural bucket and the torchflower being able to light up a small area, serving as a natural torch.

Potential New Flowers Added to Minecraft

Mojang might consider introducing new flora to Minecraft, similar to the eye-bloom in terms of unique abilities. An attention-grabbing candidate for these flowering plants could be the Venus Flytrap. Although well-known for its carnivorous jaw, the Venus Flytrap also produces small white flowers and thrives naturally in pine savannas across North and South Carolina. Mojang could place these flytraps in old growth pine taiga or dark forest biomes, making them stationary obstacles that attempt to ‘bite’ mobs if they get too close. Unique flowering plants like the eye-bloom or the Venus Flytrap can enhance the excitement of exploring Minecraft’s diverse ecosystems.
