How to Unlock 5-Star Tera Raids in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Unlike certain Tera Raids in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, like Mighty Torterra, this one isn’t a 7-Star Tera Raid. This makes it easier for players as they won’t face such strict conditions to participate in this Tera Raid.

To participate in 5-star Tera Raids, simply finish the main game. Unlike 6-Star Raids, you don’t need to win the Academy Ace Tournament first. After completing the game, connect to the internet and use the Poke Portal to access the current raids. No Nintendo Switch Online subscription is required for this.

Rayquaza’s Weakness and Tera Type in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

As a devoted cinephile of the Pokemon universe, I’d like to share some insights about Rayquaza. This Flying and Dragon-type character is quite the spectacle! Normally, its weaknesses lie in Rock, Ice, Dragon, and Fairy-type moves. However, during this special event, Rayquaza dons a Dragon Tera-type, transforming its defensive type exclusively to Dragon. In simpler terms, it will now only be vulnerable to Ice, Dragon, and Fairy-type moves.

Furthermore, because its fundamental type matches its Tera-type, it inflicts double the standard amount of damage with Dragon-type attacks. Consequently, players might find it challenging to counter Rayquaza effectively if they use Pokémon that are weak against Dragon-type moves.

Best Counters for Rayquaza in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

In a 5-star raid like this, Rayquaza is more manageable for players compared to a standard 7-star raid. It’s advantageous for players to choose Fairy-type Pokémon in this fight because they are resistant to Dragon-types, which makes the battle noticeably simpler.

Azumarill

It’s no wonder that Azumarill effortlessly defeats Rayquaza. In virtually every 7-Star Tera Raid, Azumarill is the ideal pick, but in this 5-Star Tera Raid, it’s a tad too effective because of the type advantage.

In this Tera Raid, the strategy mainly consists of repeatedly using moves like Belly Drum and Play Rough.

Players are advised to choose the Shell Bell Held Item and concentrate on boosting their HP and Attack Effort Values (EVs). Employing this strategy should enable them to defeat Rayquaza within nine or fewer attacks.

Sylveon/Primarina

An alternate Fairy creature that works well against Rayquaza is Sylveon. In case you don’t have Sylveon, Primarina can also be used as an alternative. To maximize effectiveness, use the Metronome Held Item and keep on using Calm Mind and Draining Kiss abilities to defeat Rayquaza.

Other Counters

In addition to the mentioned top counters, various Fairy types can prove effective in this fight. Players have found success not only with Clefable, Florges, and Gardevoir, but also Arceus and Zacian, so they are definitely worth exploring as viable choices.
