1 S Tier

1. Strategic Sword

The Strategic Sword is widely considered the most powerful weapon for both player-versus-player (PvP) and player-versus-environment (PvE) combat. It allows for quick movement with attacks that let you close in on or escape from opponents, but its real strength lies in its damage-over-time effects. The sword causes bleeding that builds up, and with certain upgrades, this bleed can suddenly deal massive burst damage. Combining the Strategic Sword with the Heavenquake Spear – which we’ll discuss next – creates the Bellstrike-Umbra Path, a devastating combination that can quickly defeat both bosses and other players with a mix of sustained damage and powerful bursts.

2. Heavenquake Spear

The Heavenquake Spear and Strategic Sword work really well together, and there’s a good reason why. The Strategic Sword excels at damaging single targets, but struggles with groups. That’s where the Heavenquake Spear comes in – it’s great at hitting multiple enemies at once, quickly building up bleed damage and dealing significant area-of-effect damage. While the Heavenquake Spear can also handle single targets effectively, it truly shines when combined with a weapon like the Strategic Sword that needs help with larger groups. I strongly suggest using these two weapons together, as they build bleed damage effectively and complement each other perfectly.

3. Panacea Fan

If you prefer a support role over dealing damage, the Panacea Fan is a great choice. It mainly focuses on healing – it shoots energy projectiles that can either restore health to allies or damage enemies. It can also create areas of healing energy, boosting the health of teammates (or yourself) within them. Often used with the Soulshade Umbrella (more on that later), this weapon can either keep a damage-dealing character alive longer, or be combined with the umbrella for a purely support-focused build that can out-heal most challenges. Just keep in mind that in player-versus-player combat, there’s a limit to how much healing support weapons can do, which significantly reduces the effectiveness of both the fan and the umbrella.

4. Nameless Sword

The Nameless Sword is our top-ranked all-around weapon. Though it doesn’t inflict damage over time like some other swords, it excels at powerful ranged attacks and quick movement in and out of fights. Its attacks are straightforward – mostly charged ranged strikes and combos that let you quickly engage and disengage – but incredibly effective for keeping distance from tough enemies while dealing significant damage. It’s often used with the Nameless Spear for a combination of area-of-effect and single-target damage with high mobility, but it pairs well with many other weapons and is consistently effective.

5. Everspring Umbrella

The Everspring Umbrella is a powerful ranged weapon that excels at dealing damage over time through bleeding effects and in area-of-effect bursts. It’s particularly effective against both single, tough enemies (bosses) and groups, but it’s also somewhat delicate and requires practice to use well. You can obtain it by progressing in Martial Arts or completing the “Skill Theft: Everspring Umbrella” quest in Kaifeng. It’s almost always best used alongside the Unfettered Rope Dart.

2 A Tier

1. Infernal Twinblades

Okay, so the Infernal Twinblades are kinda like the Panacea Fan – they really shine in PvP. These dual blades let me zip around the battlefield and just overwhelm opponents with a crazy fast attack speed. It’s seriously hard for anyone to block all those hits! But in PvE, they’re a bit trickier. I feel super fragile using them, like a glass cannon, because I don’t have much defense. Plus, there’s this “Flamelash” buff that makes me hit way harder, but I have to keep attacking constantly to maintain it. If enemies dodge a lot or move around, it’s tough to keep that buff up. Still, if you love dealing tons of damage and having a really flashy fighting style, these blades are awesome.

2. Thundercry Blade

This powerful greatsword is designed for players who enjoy taking damage and leading the charge in battle. It focuses on building up strong, often unstoppable, heavy attacks and creating protective shields that get stronger with your health. While excellent in both player-versus-player and player-versus-environment situations, this weapon truly excels when paired with high armor and defensive stats. However, it’s considered slightly below the best (A-tier) because needing to dodge attacks can interrupt your charged attacks and make some fights feel drawn out.

3. Nameless Spear

The Nameless Spear is a powerful weapon when used skillfully, capable of dealing significant damage quickly and weakening enemies by inflicting paralysis and reducing their stamina. However, it requires close-range combat, which can be difficult against multiple enemies or those who attack from a distance. When combined with longer-range weapons, it becomes a very effective damage dealer, and its paralysis effect can be surprisingly effective in player-versus-player combat, letting you land your full attack combo easily.

4. Heavenquaker Spear

This spear-based combat style excels at quickly damaging groups of enemies, inflicting significant Bleed effects. It relies on building momentum through a series of attacks—starting with Water Drop, progressing to Spring Surge, and ultimately reaching River Flow—where longer attack combinations increase both damage and the area of effect. Currently, it’s considered one of the strongest damage-dealing options when combined with the Strategic Sword: the sword applies Bleed, and the spear finishes enemies off with massive damage. Thundercry Blade is another excellent weapon to use with this style.

5. Unfettered Rope Dart

This character excels at dealing area-of-effect damage from a distance, especially to bosses, and can also slow down enemies. While incredibly powerful in terms of damage and control, they are fragile and challenging to master. You can unlock this character by progressing in Martial Arts or completing the “Skill Theft: Unfettered Rope Dart” quest in Kaifeng’s Ghostlight Market. Using an Umbrella alongside this character is highly recommended.

3 B Tier

1. Vernal Umbrella

Okay, so I’ve spent a good amount of time with the Vernal Umbrella, and honestly, I’m a little disappointed. I mean, it’s cool that it turns into a flying turret, but beyond that, it just doesn’t feel very natural to use. It feels like that’s all it does well, and everything else feels clunky.

The biggest downside of this weapon is how exposed you are while flying. You’re easily hit by attacks from above or by enemies who are shooting at you from a distance. Flying also drains your stamina, so you might land without enough energy to dodge, leaving you vulnerable. While it’s okay at long range for stunning opponents, other weapons like the Nameless Spear are better at applying that effect. Despite these drawbacks, it’s still a fun weapon to play with.

2. Mortal Rope Dart

It’s tough to rank this weapon low on our list because it’s so enjoyable and unique. The Mortal Rope Dart features the fantastic Rodent Rampage skill, which lets you summon a rat companion to fight with you for 10 seconds – and it stays summoned even if you switch weapons! While its range is decent and it has good quick attacks, the real appeal is that fun and helpful rat buddy, making it capable in most situations.

This weapon isn’t as powerful as the best damage dealers, but it can still be quite useful as a backup option. It works particularly well in player-versus-player combat when used alongside dual blades, creating a rapid and overwhelming attack combination.

3. Stormbreaker Spear

The Stormbreaker Spear is generally considered the weakest weapon, and most players only use it with the Thundercry Blade. It doesn’t do much damage itself, focusing instead on protecting the player. Its attacks and overall damage output are fairly weak and easy to anticipate. While it can inflict vulnerability on enemies, it’s not as effective at doing so as other status effects like poison or bleed. However, its damage reduction ability works well with the Thundercry Blade’s defensive strengths, making them a good combination. Otherwise, I wouldn’t recommend using the Stormbreaker Spear.

4. Inkwell Fan

The Inkwell Fan is generally considered one of the weakest weapons, comparable to the Stormbreaker. While it excels at long-range attacks and allows for fast, nimble movement, many of its effects are easily countered by enemies in PvE, significantly reducing its power. It’s also slow to use, making it easy to defend against in player-versus-player combat. To get the most out of the Inkwell Fan, it’s best used alongside another long-range weapon, focusing on a playstyle that prioritizes staying at a distance and consistently harassing opponents.

So, that’s my current ranking of all the weapons in Where Winds Meet. I haven’t gone into detail about every skill or possible build for each one, but everything on this list is capable enough to handle most of the game’s content, except for the really tough challenges. Where Winds Meet is a pretty flexible game, so feel free to try out different weapons and find what works best for you, rather than just following the popular strategies!
