The Music Box Relic is the second powerful item you can find in Totenreich. It creates a tough challenge: enemies only take critical hit damage, so every shot needs to be a headshot! If you’re up for the challenge, check out our guide below to help you get it.
Here’s how to unlock the Music Box Relic, plus a simple tip to help you get it without trouble. We’ll cover both what you need to do to unlock it and how to succeed in the challenging trial that starts on round 60.
To use this Relic in Totenreich, you must be at least Tier 2 in Cursed mode and have reached round 60 or later. Also, make sure you haven’t finished the rune arrows part of the Main Quest, otherwise you won’t be able to see through Tyr’s Head.
How to Easily Unlock the Music Box Relic in Totenreich
You can unlock the Music Box Relic starting on Round 60. To do so, you need to get 5 headshots with a Sniper Rifle while you’re inside Tyr’s Head. It’s surprisingly simple if you use the right weapon and GobbleGums to help you.
At the beginning of round 60, we got the Shadow SK Wallbuy weapon from Tyr’s Shoulder. Then, we used the Temporal Gift GobbleGum, which extended the duration of our next time-altering power-up to 60 seconds. After that, we fought off the zombies surrounding Skallen Market, where Mule Kick is found.
After gathering enough zombies near Skallen Market, we returned to Tyr’s Shoulder and used the Kill Joy GobbleGum for an instant kill. Then, we immediately went inside Tyr’s Shoulder to reach Tyr’s Head.
Go up the ladder in Tyr’s Head and look towards Skallen Market. Zombies will gather there and pause, giving you a chance to get five headshots. You don’t need to get them all at once, but you must do it before leaving Tyr’s Head.
Okay, so when Mr. Peeks starts chuckling, that’s my cue! A portal for the Relic Trial will pop up right across from Melee Macchiato in the Dry Dock. Gotta be ready to jump in!
The Music Box Relic Trial requires you to find a specific area and activate Mr. Peeks within 30 seconds. Here’s how we successfully completed the challenge.
How to Complete the Music Box Relic Trial
Before we began the challenge, we equipped a fully upgraded Pack-a-Punch Jotunn Star with the Melee Macchiato and Tier 4 Armor. Since each round takes place in very close combat, you’ll need powerful, quick attacks. You’ll also need Stamin-Up to sprint between locations quickly, as there’s a time limit.
Right when the trial starts, quickly look up at the sky for a purple light. You’ll have less than 30 seconds to reach it and activate Mr. Peeks, which starts the holdout phase. This gives you a small, safe zone where you can survive by killing zombies and Necropincers to fill up a meter.
After the meter fills up, look for the next safe zone in the sky. Remember to use the ziplines to get there – you won’t be able to reach the next area on foot. This trial doesn’t have any high-value targets, but the safe zone will keep shrinking.
This should be the correct order in which your holdouts will occur, so plan your route accordingly:
- Fishery Island (run north from Dry Dock and activate the zipline above PhD Flopper)
- Tyr’s Foot (Use the zipline in the northwest corner of Fishery Island and run through the Core Foundry, past Double Tap)
- Dry Dock (Run back through the Core Foundry)
- Beacon Island (Run from Dry Dock, across Fjord Road, to Eidskallen Landing, where you will need to take the zipline by the Ammo Crate facing northeast)
- Eidskallen Square (Run around the Wallbuy on Beacon Island to the zipline that takes you northwest)
- Skallen Market (Head north through Skallen Market to the Ammo Crate by the zipline)
During the last defense, we recommend using Frenzied Guard and Kazimir Grenades. The area is very cramped, making it difficult to avoid damage from the Necropincers. But by using plenty of Jotunn Stars and focusing on zombie training, you should be able to finish the trial without much trouble.
What Does the Music Box Relic Do, and Is It Worth Using?
The Music Box is a bad choice because it severely limits how you can damage enemies. It forces you to only deal damage with headshots and critical hits, meaning explosives become useless. You’ll need to aim for the head with every shot against all types of zombies – regular, special, and elites – or you won’t do any damage at all.
The Music Box Relic is really only useful if you’re trying to earn special weapon camos by getting critical kills. Otherwise, it’s best to avoid using it unless you’re looking for a really difficult challenge, like completing the game using only headshots.
