Mason Gooding’s latest horror flick, titled “Heart Eyes”, spins a chilling yarn on Valentine’s Day, and a teaser trailer has been unveiled. This contemporary slasher film caters to enthusiasts craving innovative approaches within the widely-loved subgenre.

According to Variety, the official movie description is:

On the romantic evening of Valentine’s Day in Seattle, an overworking duo of colleagues is unknowingly targeted as a couple by the enigmatic “Heart Eyes Killer.” As a result, they find themselves fleeing instead of enjoying the holiday.

According to the trailer, Gooding and Olivia Holt’s on-screen pair develop a romantic relationship that becomes entangled with the Heart Eyes Killer’s sinister intentions. In her bedroom, Ally (Holt) discovers the masked villain lurking in her closet. As a news reporter explains, this mysterious figure has been targeting couples around Valentine’s Day for several years without any clear motive being uncovered. The narrative unfolds in a typical slasher fashion, with the main characters racing against time to stay alive while trying to unravel the enigma behind the killer’s intentions.

Spyglass Media Group, along with Divide/Conquer, is developing a new project titled “Heart Eyes“, written by Christopher Landon, Michael Kennedy, and Philip Murphy. Spyglass has previously produced popular horror films like “Scream”, the Eli Roth slasher movie set during Thanksgiving, and the 2022 reboot of “Hellraiser”.

Notably, Christopher Landon is recognized for creating horror movies, including “Freaky“, “Happy Death Day“, and “We Have a Ghost“. He was originally set to direct “Scream 7“, but parted ways in December 2023, with Kevin Williamson stepping in to take over.

Previously, Gooding and Holt have delved into the realms of horror and thrillers. Notably, Gooding gained prominence by portraying Chad Meeks-Martin in Scream (2022) and its sequel Scream 6. In contrast, Holt graced our screens as a main character in the first season of the teen thriller series, Cruel Summer. Moving forward, Gooding is set to reprise his role as Chad in Scream 7, while also recently appearing in Kyle Mooney’s horror film, Y2K, further expanding their portfolio within the genre.

Few horror movies are set during Valentine’s Day, unlike the numerous ones that occur at Christmas or Halloween. Unlike the campy 2001 film “Valentine,” the upcoming movie “Heart Eyes” appears genuinely creepy based on its trailer. The mystery surrounding the identity of the killer and their motives for targeting couples celebrating Valentine’s Day makes it intriguing. It’s not hard to envision a sequel or even an entire series about copycat killers during different holidays.

The film “Heart Eyes” is scheduled for release in movie theaters on February 7th, 2025,, giving fans an early opportunity to catch Gooding on the cinema screen before the arrival of “Scream 7” in February 2026.
