Summary
- Each class in Wartales has unique attributes and specializations, making every fighter distinct in play-style and effectiveness.
- Players can recruit companions in taverns, starting parties, and new DLC added regularly to expand the game’s content.
- Classes offer diverse combat styles, with strengths, weaknesses, and specializations to consider for optimal gameplay strategies.
The tough realm of Wartales brims with sturdy comrades, each sporting diverse combat techniques tailored for distinct battle scenarios in its tactical, turn-based combat. Each character class will boast multiple optional Attributes and Specializations, making even two fighters of the same class play drastically differently and influence their efficiency. Moreover, the types of weapons and armor accessible to each class will be influenced by their role, thus it’s crucial for players to outfit every character with the most suitable weapons and armor for their specific class.
Apart from deciding on the initial character classes, players can also find and recruit various allies within the game. These allies are often discovered in taverns and other places scattered across the game’s universe.
8. Archer
A Decent Ranged Class With Poor Defense
- Specializations: Hunter, Beastmaster, Infantryman.
It’s generally wise to include Archer units in every party, but there are some factors that might make them less powerful compared to other classes in the game. Mainly focused on ranged attacks, Archers use bows and various shooting skills, plus they can move further in battle. However, they might not be as strong as other options due to certain reasons.
As an Archer, you can specialize as a Hunter, Beastmaster, or Infantryman, each providing unique skills such as command over animal allies that can prove invaluable. However, it’s important to note that when in combat, these strengths may become nullified. Additionally, Archers typically have fewer defensive capabilities compared to many other units.
7. Spearman
A Solid Defensive Class Especially At Later Levels
- Specializations: Harpooner, Herald, Pikeman.
In the game Wartales, the Spearman is arguably the most distinctive and slow-starting class. Mainly serving as a support character, it offers an assortment of skills such as delivering multiple blows in one turn and inflicting substantial damage, or providing passive protection to allies. Armed with two-handed pole-arms, this class can be specialized in three ways: Harpooner, Herald, or Pikeman. Each specialization alters the Spearman’s combat role.
Starting at Level 3, the Spearman really comes into its own by revealing a host of fresh skills, although it may initially prove difficult for novice players to grasp the nuances of this class.
6. Ranger
A Saboteur-Type Class With Plenty of Tricks
- Specializations: Cutthroat, Strategist, Poisoner, Assassin.
The Ranger character is a stealthy class, proficient in wielding daggers, applying poisons, and employing unusual weapons like explosives and projectiles. They deal extra damage when striking from the rear. These figures are optimally employed in a supportive role, where they can wreak havoc on groups of enemies with their diverse skill set.
Rangers have the option to specialize as a Rogue, Tactician, Venom-master, or Killer, and will shine in either the Stealing or Potions crafting trades. However, their armor is relatively light compared to other units, making them susceptible if they linger in dangerous situations when confronted by formidable adversaries.
5. Crossbowman
A High-Damage Ranged Class With Good Specializations
- Specializations: Scorpion, Gunner, Cannoneer.
The Crossbowman is a class that excels at dealing significant damage from a distance, but it has a few key characteristics. First, it’s primarily based on Dexterity, and second, it needs Valor Points to reload, which it uses for many of its abilities. Unfortunately, this class doesn’t have much defensive power. Since the Crossbowman depends heavily on Valor Points for its skills, it works best in the middle to late stages of a game when other team members can provide support.
Crossbow experts can choose to specialize as a Scorpion, Marksman, or Artillery unit, each excelling in professions like Thievery, Tinkering, and Alchemy. Unlike Ranger counterparts, Crossbow specialists can wear any type of armor, although their specialized paths may have varying degrees of effectiveness.
4. Swordsman
A Well-Rounded Melee Class With Useful Skills
- Specializations: Protector, Fighter, Swordmaster, Dueler.
The Swordsman character excels in wielding sharp weapons and has the option to carry a two-handed sword or a sword with shield for a more versatile unit. This class is adaptable and can be tailored to various play styles based on how players decide to modify it. Specializations like Protector, Fighter, Swordmaster, and Dueler each offer distinct skill sets and abilities.
In simpler terms, the Swordsman’s role in a group is valuable, but its skills often overlap with those of the Brute and Warrior. Notably, the optimal career choice for a Swordsman is that of a Blacksmith.
3. Brute
A Strong Tank Class With Exceptional Damage Resistance
- Specializations: Vanguard, Smasher, Destroyer.
The Brute is a robust combatant designed for inflicting damage, particularly when positioned in the heart of battle to engage numerous enemies simultaneously. Equipped with either a two-handed hammer or a weapon-and-shield pair, Brutes provide adaptability alongside their strength and wide-range capabilities on the battlefield. This class can specialize as a Vanguard, Smasher, or Destroyer, making them ideal for Mining as a profession.
As a fan, I’d put it this way: Brutes, being versatile warriors, have the option to don Medium or Heavy armor based on their specific roles. Whatever their choice, these heavy-hitters will consistently dish out immense damage, causing headaches for many types of opponents. However, they need to be mindful of potential friendly fire and Elite adversaries who might outsmart or overpower them. Generally speaking, they’ll be like a bulldozer tearing through the ranks of their less resilient foes.
2. Pugilist
A Devastating Attacking Class With A Focus On Speed
- Specializations: Wrestler, Bruiser, Slayer, Tyrant.
The Pugilist, a melee Damage Per Second (DPS) character, debuted with the Pirates of Belerion expansion pack. It specializes in delivering a wide array of powerful attacks aimed at specific targets. This makes it particularly effective against tougher enemies within the game or for swiftly reducing the number of opponents in larger groups.
Boxers can choose a specialization as a Wrestler, Bruiser, Slayer, or Tyrant, which makes them suitable for various Agility-related careers like Burglary and Disarming Traps. Notably, this class is one of the most powerful in the game, largely due to its impressive offensive capabilities.
1. Warrior
A Powerful And Versatile Class Ideal For Leaders
- Specializations: Berserker, Executioner, Sentinel, Barbarian.
It could be strongly argued that the Warrior class is indispensable for any party composition. Not only are they exceptionally powerful in one-on-one combat situations within the game, but their versatility in terms of combat skills and specializations, coupled with their adaptability to various professions, makes them an excellent choice for the role of either Captain or Lieutenant. Warriors are at their best when deployed directly into battle, where they can make use of a wide array of abilities, including area-of-effect and passive support capabilities, powerful singular strikes, and taunts that weaken enemies.
Specializations take on the roles of Berserker, Executioner, Sentinel, and Barbarian, each with distinct skills and weapon proficiencies. A Warrior may wear Medium or Heavy Armor, and like the Ranger, can wield a throwing weapon in their secondary hand. The Warrior stands out as an all-round excellent choice for its diverse capabilities.
