As a gaming enthusiast, I must admit it’s been a tough time for hobbit fans like me in the realm of video games lately. The release of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum didn’t quite live up to our expectations. Games such as Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War, while offering fantastic immersions into familiar Middle-earth lore, seem to have inadvertently pushed the focus further away from hobbits. It’s understandable that it might be challenging to create an action-packed game centered around hobbits, but that’s why I’m eagerly anticipating Weta Workshop’s upcoming title, Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game. This could potentially be a unique gem in the LOTR series.

In the game EA Redwood Shores’ “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”, Sam, Frodo, Merry, and Pippin are characters that players can control. Additionally, players have the option to design their own hobbit character in “The Lord of the Rings Online”.

It’s undeniable that Fizz Factor, Saffire, and Sierra’s version of “The Hobbit” is a fantastic adaptation of the original book. However, since 2003, there hasn’t been any hobbit-led game in the Middle-earth universe. Consequently, it seems like there’s a gaping hole for a hobbit-themed game to fill – and that could very well be “Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game.” If all goes well, this upcoming title might help bring back the importance of hobbits as the central characters in the Lord of the Rings franchise.

Notably, Bywater from “The Lord of the Rings” plays a significant role in the War of the Ring, being the location where Saruman and Grima Wormtongue are finally defeated. However, due to its specific position in the timeline, it’s clear that hobbits will enjoy decorating and furnishing their homes without any war or destruction being forced upon them.

The game titled “Tales of the Shire” can be aptly described as a charming life simulation, yet it primarily aims to offer an engaging and immersive experience in a hobbit-like world.
