Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and now head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under the Donald Trump administration, has once again made light-hearted remarks about U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, following the recent Chinese hacking incident. These comments were made as the ongoing probe into the alleged Chinese cyberattack on the U.S. Treasury Department continues from earlier this month.
DOGE Chief Elon Musk Takes A Bitcoin Jibe At Janet Yellen
On Thursday, newly surfaced information regarding the ongoing investigation hinted at Chinese hackers successfully penetrating the computer of U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen in a recent cyber attack. In response to this news, Elon Musk jokingly speculated: “Perhaps she opened an email titled ‘I’ll send you 1 bitcoin, you send me 2 bitcoins’.

In a playful manner, the leader of DOGE humorized that it’s possible Janet Yellen could have been ensnared by an email deception. The con artist in this case requests 1 Bitcoin (BTC), promising to return double the amount. This is a prevalent form of advance-fee scam, where crooks swindle victims by persuading them to send a larger sum with the expectation that they’ll receive more in return – an outcome that rarely materializes.
Recently, Elon Musk has spoken about Bitcoin again, and his remarks come as the price of Bitcoin has successfully surpassed the significant resistance level of $100K. At this moment, the price of Bitcoin is increasing by 1.6%, currently standing at $101,183.41. Furthermore, it’s holding onto its market cap of over $2 trillion with a firm grip.
Chinese Hackers Breached US Treasury Secretary’s Computer
During the current probe, a reliable source disclosed to Bloomberg that Chinese hackers apparently breached the computer system of former Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. This intrusion allowed them access to approximately 50 unclassified files on her computer.
According to reports, not only did the hackers manage to launch an attack, but they additionally gained access to the computers of two high-ranking officials in Yellen’s administration: Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo and Acting Under Secretary Brad Smith.
Additionally, it was noted in a previous Treasury report that the main focus of the attackers was on the department’s role in sanctions, intelligence, and foreign policy, rather than their email or confidential systems.
On both Wednesday and Thursday, personnel from the Treasury Department held talks with congressional assistants and legislators regarding the recent hack. These conversations took place concurrently with the Senate Finance Committee’s confirmation hearing on Thursday for Scott Bessent, who is President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for Treasury secretary.
