Daredevil: Born Again Trailer Reveals First Looks at New and Returning Characters

Fans of Marvel have triumphantly celebrated their efforts in rebooting series, as Daredevil is making a comeback. Following appearances in Spiderman: No Way Home and She-Hulk, he’s been integrated into the MCU once more, over six years since his solo show concluded. Now, Marvel has unveiled the trailer for Daredevil’s return, which will be titled Daredevil: Born Again and can be streamed on Disney+ starting this March. As always, he’ll reappear as blind and battered.

As a thrilled gamer, I can’t help but share my excitement after catching a glimpse of the fresh two-minute sneak peek into Hell’s Kitchen! It promises a revamped Matt Murdock and an entirely new landscape. But what truly has me on the edge of my seat are the glimpses of both familiar and brand-new characters set to make their mark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Daredevil storyline.

7. Matthew Murdock/Daredevil

A great point to begin is with the comeback of the shrewd lawyer by day and the damaged yet lethal figure known as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen at night – Charlie Cox once more takes on his most significant role, portraying Matthew Murdock in a way that appears to be a changed man compared to previous portrayals. The teaser for Born Again opens with Murdock sharing coffee in a diner with the man fans remember Daredevil almost killing at the end of season three, thereby introducing a distinctly altered Hell’s Kitchen after an extended absence.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the revelation from the trailer, where it appears that Matt Murdock has given up being Daredevil for an extended period. This change comes after crossing a line that viewers may get to witness in flashbacks. During this hiatus, Matt Murdock seems to have found success with his law firm, but something will draw him back to the mask. The trailer includes glimpses of classic Daredevil hand-to-hand combat and new masks of various colors, hinting at a return and perhaps indicating that Matt’s violent alter ego may not be fully vanquished.

6. Wilson Fisk/Kingpin

In the trailer’s opening scene, it’s Wilson Fisk who makes an appearance, having a meeting with Matthew Murdock. Vincent D’Onofrio reprises his role, but it appears that Fisk, since our last encounter, has left behind his menacing Kingpin persona and taken up a new role – that of New York City’s Mayor. Despite the change, he maintains an air of elegance and has shed some weight.

In the Hawkeye series, Fisk first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, launching his probable winning campaign for mayor, which left Matt Murdock wary of his motives once again, hinting at a potential comeback of Daredevil. However, Fisk isn’t entirely innocent either; the trailer suggests that he retains his usual ruthless behavior and immense physical power, as evidenced by some fight scenes. It’s intriguing to see Marvel continuing to portray the deceptive qualities of both Murdock and Fisk in the upcoming show.

5. Frank Castle/The Punisher

In the much-anticipated trailer for Daredevil: Born Again, it’s been confirmed that Jon Bernthal is reprising his role as The Punisher. Bernthal’s portrayal of the troubled Castle was so well-loved during the initial three seasons of Daredevil, he even got his own spinoff series which ran for a few years until its termination in 2019.

In the Born Again trailer, Castle’s screen time is brief and his whereabouts during his hiatus remain a mystery. It’s unclear what motivates him in the return of the Daredevil series, considering he managed to avenge his family during his solo stint. However, given the troubled state of New York City within the MCU and Wilson Fisk’s resurgence, it wouldn’t be shocking if we saw a reunion of The Punisher and Daredevil.

4. Foggy Nelson and Karen Page

Continuing the momentum, the trailer for the return of Born Again has also verified the comeback of Matthew Murdock’s two closest allies in the realm of legal defense – Foggy Nelson and Karen Page. Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll will take up their roles once more to strengthen the expectation that Matt Murdock, in his quest to resume his vigilante life and combat crime via the courts as a respected attorney, will persist in his efforts.

The trailer offers just a few glimpses of the duo, showing them strolling along a bustling city street in outfits more elegant than they’ve worn before, appearing cheerful and content. Additionally, Page is briefly shown alone in a crowded courtroom, looking unhappy, which suggests much given her past struggles between upholding justice ethically versus Daredevil’s methods.

3. Benjamin Pointdexter/Bullseye

One of the frequent antagonists of Daredevil from the comics, known as Bullseye, made a brief appearance in the trailer for Born Again. Wilson Bethel is set to reprise his role as Benjamin Pointdexter, also known as Bullseye, the ruthless assassin who gave Matt Murdock quite a bit of trouble during the last season of Daredevil. The glimpse of Bullseye was perfectly timed, showing him in an orange prison jumpsuit and heavily restrained with handcuffs, being guarded by multiple officers in full SWAT gear.

In the series, Pointdexter has been both coerced and controlled by Wilson Fisk in the past. As it appears that Kingpin may have regained significant influence, there’s a question about whether he will be released from prison again to carry on serving his purposes.

2. White Tiger

In the highly anticipated Born Again series for Daredevil, some well-known adversaries are making a comeback. Given this, it seems fitting that Marvel might introduce another possible ally for Murdock – the White Tiger, a lesser-known but iconic hero from New York’s Marvel universe. After a sneak peek in the Daredevil trailer, the White Tiger is now confirmed to join the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Originally portrayed by the late Kamar de los Reyes, this Puerto Rico-born character harnesses the abilities of Jade Tiger amulets to boost his physical prowess and agility.

In the trailer, briefly, The White Tiger dons his mask; however, information from the film set suggests sadly that he has taken on a fresh role in Daredevil and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This particular scene seems to depict a tense moment with The Punisher, as suggested by the clothing, but beyond this, details are scarce about how The White Tiger will contribute to the series.

1. Daniel Blade Played By Michael Gandolfini

In a less prominent but attention-grabbing move for the cast, Michael Gandolfini, son of the iconic James Gandolfini known as Tony Soprano, makes his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. His role in Daredevil, Daniel Blade, has been shrouded in secrecy by Marvel, leading to much speculation about his part in the series following brief appearances in the trailer. Theories range from him being on trial to a speculative link between his character and a potential Blade reboot based solely on their shared last name.
