Role-playing games, or RPGs, offer a lot of different ways to play. Each game handles things differently – whether it’s through combat styles or how you talk to characters – but building a strong, powerful character is always a popular choice. Some players prefer to be quick and agile, or focus on magic, but there’s a unique satisfaction in simply being strong and imposing.
When built correctly, a focus on strength lets players become incredibly durable and powerful, allowing them to withstand heavy attacks, defeat tough bosses, and overcome even the most skilled enemies. Games that emphasize strength – whether you’re wielding massive weapons in a challenging action RPG or using your physical power to explore new areas in a role-playing game – offer some of the most satisfying strength-focused experiences.
Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous
Cut Through Demons Like Butter
I’ve played a lot of CRPGs, like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, and while most let you tackle things in different ways, nothing beats the fun of turning your character into a massive powerhouse and just swinging across the battlefield with a big reach weapon. Seriously, Strength is so useful that even if I usually play a magic user like a Sorcerer, I can build a ridiculously strong, melee-focused character and it’s actually amazing.
For characters in combat-focused classes, prioritizing Strength is especially helpful. They won’t need to use valuable abilities to become proficient with Strength-based weapons or to get the usual attack and damage bonuses. Wrath of the Righteous offers many opportunities to significantly increase your Strength, more so than other stats. And if you use the Legendary Proportions spell, weapons like glaives and polearms become incredibly powerful, while also boosting your character’s defenses. It’s satisfying to be able to overcome huge challenges with brute force!
Dark Souls 2: Scholar Of The First Sin
Use Power Stance To Crush Your Foes
The Dark Souls series is fantastic for players who focus on Strength. Weapons like the Dragon Tooth in Dark Souls and the Dragonslayer Greataxe in Dark Souls 3 are incredibly fun to use, and there’s a special satisfaction in wielding a massive weapon like Smough’s Hammer. However, nothing quite compares to the joy of fighting with two Smelter Hammers or Fume Ultra Greatswords at the same time.
In Dark Souls 2, players can use the Power Stance, which lets you wield two weapons of the same type to unlock stronger and different attacks. While often overlooked, this can be very effective. If you’re building a character focused on Strength, you have a lot of options beyond just the largest weapons. However, those larger weapons do offer a benefit: they increase your poise, letting you withstand attacks while swinging. If you want to feel incredibly powerful and tough to stop, a Strength build is a great choice.
Cyberpunk 2077
Go, Go, Gorilla
While Cyberpunk 2077 offers strength-based options, they aren’t very diverse in combat. The ‘Body’ stat is mainly helpful with a limited number of weapons, but Gorilla Arms stand out as particularly interesting. These cybernetic arms let players solve problems by simply punching their way through them, allowing for powerful attacks and movement. Beyond combat, they also provide a strength bonus for things like opening doors or completing other tasks that usually require a high Body score.
Okay, so in conversations, the Body skill is all about being intimidating and making tough choices on my own. Basically, it lets me play the role of a real hard-ass when talking to people. But it’s way more than just talk – it seriously boosts my health, how quickly I heal, and how much damage I can take. Plus, it helps with stamina when I’m swinging weapons. Honestly, if I want to be a total tank and just not die, Body is the way to go. It’s a great stat to focus on if I want to be the unstoppable force I always imagined!

Nioh 3
Break The Yokai’s Ki With Your Heaviest Attacks
In Nioh 3, Strength is an important stat for using powerful weapons and increases both your health and energy damage. Because the game has so many different weapon types, players have plenty of opportunities to boost their damage output by increasing their Strength. Weapons like Tonfas, axes, and Odachi all get a bonus from this stat.
Axes are especially satisfying for players who want to feel like a powerful samurai, letting them deliver devastating blows. Gear like the Kintaro Set boosts your strength damage and helps you survive battles by restoring health and reducing incoming damage. Nioh 3 encourages a fast-paced, aggressive playstyle, and building your character’s Strength is the ideal way to quickly defeat enemies.
Code Vein 2
Who Needs To Dodge When You Can Just Flatten Your Foes?
Strength-based characters in Code Vein 2 have a lot of weapon choices, especially halberds, two-handed swords, and hammers, which all get a significant boost from the Strength stat. Other weapon types are also viable, letting players customize their combat style.
Okay, so the Blood Code system in this game is HUGE. Honestly, it impacts your damage and stats way more than just grinding those stats yourself. Leveling up your stats still helps, but what you’re wearing is way more important. And let me tell you, if you’re running a two-handed sword build, especially with something like the Iron Mass or the Cultist’s Ritual Blade, you’re going to destroy everything in your path. Seriously, enemies just fall apart under those things – it’s a blast!
Caves Of Qud
Utilize Your Mutations To Become One With The Apes
In Caves of Qud, your Strength stat mainly controls how much damage you deal in close combat. Higher Strength lets you use bigger, more powerful weapons like axes and clubs, and defeat enemies quickly. If you focus on Strength, you can also gain powerful mutations, like Double-Muscled, to become even stronger.
Strength is a valuable stat for many reasons, but its ability to consistently stun enemies is incredibly strong, often letting players win fights quickly. Even if you prefer to avoid combat, Strength can benefit ranged attacks, as some equipment, like the Turbow, scales with Strength instead of Agility.
A particularly amusing character build focuses on repeatedly taking the Multiple Arms mutation and boosting your Strength. This allows for incredibly high damage with the Fist of the Ape God ability. Strength isn’t just useful in fights, though; skills like Slam let you break through doors and walls, and they also rely on high Strength.
Dragon’s Dogma 2
Stagger The Big Guys And Squash The Small Ones
Dragon’s Dogma 2 has a special leveling system. Eventually, all your character’s stats will reach their highest possible limit. While choosing a class like Warrior gives you bonuses to certain stats, such as Strength, by level 200, all stats will be as high as they can go, regardless of your class.
What Dragon’s Dogma 2 does best isn’t about leveling up in a certain way—it’s about how you use each character class’s unique skills. The Warrior class, especially, really shows what the game can do when it comes to raw power. Warriors wield huge, two-handed weapons, easily knocking away weaker enemies and stunning bigger ones. They can also power up their attacks without being interrupted, letting them deliver incredibly powerful blows with accuracy.
Esoteric Ebb
The Ultimate Expression Of Masculinity
Esoteric Ebb uses the standard Dungeons & Dragons ability scores – Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Wisdom, Intelligence, and Charisma. Building a character focused on Strength is a unique approach, especially for the Cleric class, which doesn’t usually prioritize it.
Beyond simply performing physical actions like opening doors or intimidating others, “Strength” also represents a core part of the main character’s personality. Each of the character’s stats appears as a unique chime – an inner voice – that offers guidance, sharing information and opinions about what’s happening in the game.
The Strength chime often focuses on traditionally masculine ideals and national pride, leading to content centered around being ‘a man’ and devotion to one’s god and country. This creates amusing interactions with other chimes and shapes how non-player characters react to your character. For example, seeing a Cleric aggressively asserting their beliefs and threatening violence in the name of the state is surprisingly funny.
