Previously renowned footballer Wayne Bridge, who represented England until 2009, has withdrawn from a scheduled fight with KSI because of remarks made by the internet personality during a pre-fight encounter. Known as Olajide Olatunji online, this influencer hasn’t stepped into the ring since his defeat to professional boxer Tommy Fury in October 2023 and was planning to return against Bridge on March 29.
For quite some time, KSI had built a reputation on YouTube. In 2018, he stepped out of the YouTube world and into professional boxing when he battled fellow YouTuber Joe Weller in an amateur match. KSI won this fight by technical knockout in the third round, followed by two fights against Logan Paul. Their initial encounter, another amateur bout, ended as a majority draw, while their rematch – each one’s first professional fight – saw KSI emerge victorious via split decision. Over the years, KSI continued to box under his own promotion, Misfits Boxing, until he suffered his first defeat at the hands of Tommy Fury in 2023.
Wayne Bridge Explains Why He Will Not Fight KSI
Although lots of boxing enthusiasts are excited about a possible match-up between KSI and Jake Paul, it was declared on January 18 that the YouTuber would instead fight Wayne Bridge on March 29, 2025. At a Misfits event, KSI stepped into the ring to announce his upcoming battle against Bridge before engaging in a heated exchange with him. During their confrontation, KSI referenced a past scandal involving Bridge’s former wife, who was rumored to have had an affair with fellow footballer John Terry. While on stage, KSI taunted Bridge by saying, “Aren’t you the one who let John Terry sleep with your ex?” Now, merely two days after the fight announcement, Bridge has confirmed in a post on Instagram Stories that he will not be fighting KSI on March 29 due to the remarks made.
In a lengthy post, Bridge expressed that the conversation from Saturday night exceeded a boundary. Being a family man comes first for him, and his focus is on safeguarding them. He mentioned that he prefers to stay away from such interactions. Later, he clarified that he will not be facing KSI in the fight scheduled for March 29th. Although he didn’t specify any future challenges, Bridge hinted at some intriguing developments this year; however, he did not confirm if another boxing match was planned.
KSI hasn’t made any public comments about the canceled fight yet, marking the second time in five months that one of his fights has been called off. Before the announcement of his match with Wayne Bridge, KSI was set to face both Slim Albaher and Anthony Taylor in a 2 vs 1 tag team battle. However, on August 1, 2024, KSI announced he would withdraw from the fight due to an injury. Given his massive fanbase, KSI has numerous options for his next fight. Previously, he’s expressed interest in fighting Andrew Tate, a contentious online personality who used to be a professional kickboxer.
