In Outbound, you’ll spend a lot of time traveling and enjoying the scenery in your camper van, but you’ll also need to gather resources, build tools, and improve your vehicle. You’ll also have to manage basic survival needs like power, hunger, and health. This means collecting lots of items, even though your backpack has limited space. Luckily, Outbound lets you store things inside your camper van, though it’s not always obvious how to do it.
How to Store Items in Your Camper Van in Outbound
You can find storage space in your camper van by looking for a small door located below the rear left window. It’s right beside the back door you use when setting up camp, and is shown in the image below.
Usually, using this feature automatically moves everything from your inventory into your van. While convenient, it can be frustrating if you prefer to carry certain items with you, like Download Tickets or snacks.
To prevent an item from being accidentally stored in your camper van, you can lock it to your inventory. Open your inventory, select the item, and then either press X/Square (on a controller) or click the padlock icon (using mouse and keyboard) to lock it.
How to Increase Camper Van Carry Capacity
Just like you, your van has a weight limit. You can find this limit, called the ‘build weight,’ by checking the ‘Motor Info’ panel on the right side of the engine compartment. Also, pay attention to the energy use rating in the top left corner of that panel. A lower rating means your van will have more trouble handling weight and will use fuel faster.
If you want to carry more items in your van, you’ll need to build a Vehicle Research Station. It takes 4 Scrap Metal and 4 Everwood Planks to make, and you’ll need to place it on a flat surface like a counter. Once built, open the research station and switch to the middle icon of the three. Then, in the upgrade menu, choose the ‘Weight Carry Upgrade I’ option on the right.
You’ll need 10 bolts to craft this item. To get the blueprints for the ‘Bolt Press’ machine – which makes the bolts – you can find them at signal towers throughout the world or by accessing computers at landmarks.
To make bolts, you’ll need to put Scrap Metal into the Bolt Press. You can also upgrade your camper van’s carrying capacity in Outbound, but doing so requires additional crafting materials.
