In Outbound, you’ll explore the wilderness and survive using your camper van. A big part of the game involves collecting resources and crafting items. As you play, you’ll learn blueprints for new things, but you’ll need to find the materials to build them. This means constantly gathering and processing resources to overcome challenges and explore the world. Because of this, having enough inventory space is crucial, so here’s a guide to increasing your carry capacity in Outbound.
How to Increase Carry Capacity in Outbound
You can increase how much you can carry by finding blueprints to make better backpacks using the Sewing Table. You unlock the Sewing Table blueprint by finding it in a signal tower or on a computer at a landmark. The Sewing Table itself is made with just five Fiber.
Okay, so once I finally unlocked the Sewing Table, I automatically got the recipe for Backpack Upgrade 1. That’s awesome because it doubles my carrying capacity from 20 to 40! To actually make it, I needed 12 Fiber. Luckily, that stuff isn’t too hard to find – it’s from these skinny orange and brown plants you can spot all over the world.
So, when I want to craft an upgrade at the Sewing Table, I just pick it from the menu and hit A. If I want to carry even more stuff, I need to find more backpack upgrade blueprints. I usually get those by chatting with NPCs I find at landmarks, or by hacking signal towers – that’s how I download them.
As a big fan, I’ve found the Sewing Machine is awesome for boosting my health and stamina! You can upgrade your clothes using it – just switch over from the backpack menu using the RB button. It does take some materials like Thread and Rough Stuffing, but it’s totally worth it to make your gear even better.
Use Your Camper’s Storage to Share the Load
You can cleverly manage how much you can carry by using your camper van’s storage space. Simply interact with the small flap located below the screen/rear window, near the side door, to move items from your inventory into the van. I’ve highlighted it in the screenshot below because it can be a little hard to find.
This feature automatically moves all your items into the van. To prevent certain items from being moved, select them in your backpack and click the padlock icon (if you’re using a mouse) or press X/Square (if using a controller).
