How to Leave the First Area in Outbound

While the basic idea behind Outbound is straightforward, it’s actually a quite expansive game. The initial area takes a significant amount of time to fully explore as you learn the gameplay mechanics and collect blueprints for improving your camper van, tools, and machines. Once you’ve thoroughly explored this first area, you’ll need to figure out how to move on to the next. Here’s a guide to help you do just that.

How to Leave the First Area & Start the Second Map in Outbound

The road between Area One and Area Two in Outbound is currently blocked by a rockslide in the northeast part of the map. I’ve included a screenshot below showing the exact location, marked with a red square. You’ll also notice an icon that looks like a half-circle with an arrow pointing right near the blocked road.

These rocks are called Mossrocks, and you’ll need a Level 2 Pickaxe to break them. Here’s what you need to craft one:

  • Blueprint Pickaxe II
  • Reinforced Plank x3
  • Silverbark Plank x3
  • Thread x2

I’ve detailed how to obtain each of these items below, as finding some of them can be a bit challenging.

Blueprint Pickaxe II

This item is fairly easy to obtain – you simply download it from a signal tower located somewhere on the map. It becomes available later in the game as you explore the area, so be sure to select it when you see it.

Reinforced Planks

You can craft Reinforced Planks at the Nailing Station using two Everwood Planks and one Metal.

You craft Everwood Planks by processing Everwood Logs in a Sawmill. It takes two logs to make one plank. Therefore, you’ll need 12 Everwood Logs to create six Everwood Planks, which are then used to make three Reinforced Planks.

You can get Metal by using a Metal Smelter. First, you need to build the Smelter itself, which requires five Coarse Ore and six Rocks. Once it’s built, you can turn Metal Scraps into Metal – two Scraps make one Metal. If you put six Metal Scraps into the Smelter, you’ll get three Metal.

Coarse Ore can be difficult to locate because it only appears in a limited area of the map. If you’re struggling to find it, we’ve created a guide to help pinpoint its location.

Silverbark Planks

You craft Silverbark Planks using the Sawmill and two Silverbark Logs. You can find Silverbark Logs mainly in the northeast part of the map, especially near the bridge you’ll build to reach the farm, or just south of the vehicle ramp. There are also some logs in the eastern section of the map.

They’re pretty easy to spot thanks to their silver bark… hence the name.

Thread

Thread is created by twisting fibers together using a spinning wheel. Once you learn the recipe, crafting a spinning wheel takes 10 fibers.

Next, just put the fiber into the spinning wheel to create thread. It takes two fiber to make one thread, so adding four fiber will give you enough for the level 2 pickaxe.

Okay, so once I finally got that pickaxe made, I headed over to the tunnel you showed in the screenshot. There was a bunch of Mossrock blocking the entrance, but I cleared it all out. After that, I drove my camper van right through, and whoa – I was instantly transported to a whole new area! It’s the coast, and it looks amazing!
