The trailer for the new Street Fighter movie is out, and fans are eager for more details. We’ve seen a surge in video game adaptations in Hollywood recently, showing the industry is really investing in these projects. The success of movies based on characters like Mario and Sonic proves they’re aiming to build full-fledged franchises.
Street Fighter stands out from other video game adaptations. Previous attempts to bring the series to the big screen have been unsuccessful, but this new film could be different. A key reason for optimism is the compelling and memorable characters being featured.
8. Ryu
Classic Character Turned Exhausted Hero

The new Street Fighter movie seems to center around Ryu and Ken Masters, with Andrew Koji playing Ryu. The trailer shows Ryu demonstrating his impressive abilities and sharing a funny moment with Ken.
Andrew Koji is a talented actor, and this role has the potential to be his biggest success yet. His character, Ryu, is a battle-weary fighter who’s lost his passion for fighting, which should make him appealing and instantly likeable to fans. As a longtime fan of Street Fighter, I’m particularly excited to see Koji bring this iconic character to life.
7. Akuma
A True WWE-Sized Beast
Despite a brief appearance in the movie’s trailer, WWE superstar Roman Reigns will play the character Akuma in the upcoming Street Fighter film. Known for his powerful and imposing presence in WWE, Reigns is expected to bring a truly frightening intensity to the role, making Akuma a formidable figure on screen.
Fans are guessing the story might involve Ken and Ryu teaming up to get revenge on Akuma, who killed their teacher – a plot similar to what we saw in Street Fighter 2 Turbo. When Akuma does appear, everyone will likely be obsessed with mastering his techniques, and he’s sure to become a very popular character. I’ve always found Akuma intimidating, and I think Roman Reigns portraying him will only amplify that fear.
6. Balrog
A Highlight Reel in the Trailer
Balrog, the character 50-Cent will play in the upcoming Street Fighter movie, has a powerful name that suggests a fearsome presence. Originally inspired by and nearly named after Mike Tyson, Balrog is a tough, aggressive boxer with a strong personality. Fans are especially excited to see 50-Cent bring this already compelling character to life on the big screen.
The trailer features a couple of glimpses of Balrog. We see him both drinking and looking intimidating, and delivering a powerful punch to Ken Masters. This suggests Masters might have already lost to Balrog, or will face a tough battle against him in an upcoming tournament. Regardless, Balrog appears to be a seriously dangerous and powerful fighter.
5. Guile
Comedic, Fierce, Crazed?
In the 1994 Street Fighter movie, Jean-Claude Van Damme’s portrayal of Guile felt particularly exaggerated. Now, with WWE Champion Cody Rhodes taking on the role, fans – including myself – are excited to see his unique take on the character, especially considering the over-the-top hairstyle and the choice of another wrestler for the part.
Based on the trailer, Guile seems to be perfectly cast and might be surprisingly funny. The scene of him intimidating another fighter while whispering “BOOM” suggests he’ll be a larger-than-life, yet still imposing, character. As a fan of the character, I’m excited to see this unusual take and think he could be a highlight of the movie.
4. Ken Masters
The Beloved Party Boy
Noah Centineo, known from several popular Netflix projects, has been cast as Ken Masters in the upcoming Street Fighter movie. This role is expected to be a significant step forward in his career, potentially launching him to even greater stardom.
The trailer portrays Ken Masters as a once-great fighter who’s lost his focus, now preferring to party. Chun-Li steps in to convince him to rejoin the tournament, setting him on a path of redemption. It promises to be a compelling story, making it easy to support Masters as he overcomes challenges to reclaim his former glory. As a longtime fan of Ken Masters in the Street Fighter games, I’m excited the movie is centering on his character, and I think Joseph Centineo is a great fit for the role.
3. Cammy
The Infamous Sass Machine
Cammy is a famous character from Street Fighter, often remembered as one of gaming’s first sex symbols. However, she’s a complex character – a highly skilled fighter with a strong moral compass and a troubled history. The upcoming Street Fighter movie seems like it will delve into her mysterious past, possibly exploring her connection to the ‘Killer Bee’ organization.
The trailer shows Mel Jarnson perfectly capturing Cammy’s attitude and bringing a lot of confidence to the role, especially when she playfully teases Chun-Li about her legs. Just that one exchange has me eager to see them fight in the movie, where they’re clearly set up as rivals. Cammy has always been a standout character in past adaptations, and Jarnson seems well-prepared for the part, having previously played Nitara in the 2021 Mortal Kombat film.
2. Blanka
Jason Momoa, Enough Said
Jason Momoa has a remarkable ability to command attention whenever he appears on screen, instantly making his characters memorable. Even with relatively small roles, like Lobo in the new Supergirl movie and Blanka in the Street Fighter film, his involvement generates a lot of excitement and draws viewers in.
Even though the recent trailer didn’t show much of him, fans are already excited to see Jason Momoa play this character when the movie comes out in October. Blanka is a long-time favorite in the Street Fighter series, and Momoa’s portrayal is sure to draw in fans worldwide.
1. Chun-Li
The MVP Every Time
The new Street Fighter movie centers around Ken and Ryu teaming up, but Chun-Li is the one driving the plot forward. She’s the one who finds the other fighters, appears to be organizing the tournament, and will also be participating in the battles. Chun-Li has long been the most popular and iconic character in the Street Fighter series, and is often considered the face of fighting games.
Callina Liang’s portrayal of Chun-Li in the new Street Fighter trailer has fans incredibly excited. Many believe she’ll be the standout star of the film, just as she always has been in the games, bringing her signature blend of humor, intensity, and style. Seeing Chun-Li get such a prominent role in a live-action adaptation is a long-held dream for fans, and Liang seems poised to deliver a fantastic performance.
