Following several months of eager wait, the creators of Pokemon TCG Pocket unveiled the specifics of the game’s trading system just over two weeks ago. In this disclosure, they clarified that trades could only occur between players who are already in-game friends and that not every card would be available for trade at launch. However, what left fans most disappointed was that, similar to many actions within the mobile card battle game, trading would necessitate the spending of a unique in-game item.

Starting from January 29th, the introduction of the trading function has given players insights about the Trade Tokens within the game. However, what’s causing disappointment among players is that they can only obtain Trade Tokens by discarding duplicate cards, which hold a minimum three-diamond value and typically represent fundamental Pokemon from Stage 1 or Stage 2, as per Pokemon TCG Pocket. The game has eight levels of card rarity, but the number of tokens received for trading a lower-value card is minimal, yielding just 25 trade tokens. Interestingly, exchanging a three-diamond Pokemon demands 120 Trade Tokens, while one-star trades require 400 and four-diamond trades require 500. This implies that trading a single three-diamond card necessitates a player to discard five other cards of the same value.
