CD Projekt Red, the creators of Cyberpunk 2077, are currently working on two significant sequels: The Witcher 4 and the next installment of Cyberpunk 2077, tentatively known as Project Orion. Although it might be a while before we see these games, knowing that they’re in development is thrilling. As for Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel, not much information has been shared yet. However, whispers suggest that the game may feature a significant change of setting.
CD Projekt Red hasn’t verified these rumors as fact or fiction, but whispers about “Project Orion” possibly taking place on the moon have been circulating for quite some time now. This speculation arises from uncovered discarded plans for “Cyberpunk 2077“, which initially included lunar travel. If this idea is reused in “Project Orion“, it might offer the Delamain Corporation an intriguing chance to expand.
If Project Orion Goes to Space, Delamain Could Make a Surprising Return
A Central Part of Night City
- Delamain Corporation taxis provide Night City residents with armor-protected transportation.
- The company is run by the titular AI, Delamain, with all vehicles also being piloted by AI.
As a gaming enthusiast immersed in the gritty world of Night City, I can’t help but be captivated by Delamain Corporation and its enigmatic CEO. In many ways, Delamain seems like a darker counterpart to Waymo, their autonomous taxi service weaving through the storyline of Cyberpunk 2077. If Project Orion continues to unfold within Night City’s neon-lit streets, it’s almost certain that Delamain will make another appearance. However, should the action shift to a new location, there’s no guarantee we’ll reconnect with the characters we first met in the original game.
By unveiling the franchise’s hinted moon base, Delamain’s taxi service might expand significantly. Instead of only ensuring Night City’s safe transit, Delamain could provide trips to and from the moon or offer a taxi service within the lunar colony. There’s a strong chance that Project Orion may reboot its main characters, but including Delamain again could create a link between the two games, however minor it might be.
Despite being confirmed, Project Orion is only in its early stages of production right now.
The Wait For Project Orion is Bound to Be a Long One
- The Witcher 4 is next in line for CD Projekt Red.
- Despite being announced at the 2024 Game Awards, The Witcher 4 isn’t expected to launch until 2027 at the earliest.
Given that The Witcher 4 might still be a couple of years off, it means Project Orion’s development timeline is even further out. It’s safe to say we won’t hear any substantial updates about Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel for quite some time yet from CD Projekt Red.
It remains undecided whether V will reappear in the Project Orion series as the lead character or a supporting one. Given that Cyberpunk 2077 has various conclusions, deciding on a canonical ending by CD Projekt Red might stir up controversy.
Following the rocky debut of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red might prefer delaying any revelations about its sequel for now. Granted, this wait could be tough given that we might not see the game until the 2030s at the earliest. It’s hard to fathom, but with the 2020s already halfway through, it’s a plausible scenario.
Upon the debut of Project Orion, it’ll surely be intriguing to discover if the whispers about relocation prove accurate. Time alone can reveal the truth, yet it would undeniably captivate us if Delamain managed to weave itself into the narrative of Cyberpunk 2077‘s follow-up in some minor capacity.
