Many gamers have eagerly anticipated the release of Days Gone 2 for quite some time now. The impressive sales figures of its predecessor suggested that the initial title was a hit, but here we are, six years later, still tapping our fingers in anticipation as we wait to immerse ourselves once more in the world of Days Gone 2 and engage with its Freaker inhabitants.
As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on Days Gone – a game that, in my opinion, has been unfairly overshadowed. When it was initially released, I jumped at the chance to explore its post-apocalyptic world, and to this day, I can’t comprehend why it didn’t receive more acclaim.
The fear that Freakers and hoards instill is unparalleled, the narrative keeps me hooked from start to finish, and as a survival title, it delivers rock-solid gameplay throughout.
In late 2024, there were whispers that a remastered version of Days Gone for PS5 was being developed. This was officially confirmed during Sony’s State of Play in February 2025, causing the anticipation for Days Gone 2 to reach unprecedented levels.
Is a Days Gone 2 Sequel Happening?
From what I’ve gathered, it seems that a follow-up to Days Gone, a game I’m quite fond of, isn’t currently being developed. At this point, it doesn’t look like such a sequel is in the works or even planned for the future. To be honest, it feels like the odds might not be in favor of seeing another installment.
I’m deeply saddened as I pen these words, and I can only wish that one day I might retract them. However, there’s a strong possibility that Bend Studio, the developer behind Days Gone, has shifted focus and was working on a live-service game before it was terminated by Sony. As a result, beyond the Broken Road DLC for Days Gone and now the Days Gone Remastered version, this could be all the content we’ll ever see related to Days Gone.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but mention an interesting tidbit: there seems to be a link between our current game and Astro Bot, although the director of Days Gone wasn’t particularly fond of this association.
Why Hasn’t Days Gone Had a Sequel?
It’s common knowledge that although Days Gone sold exceptionally well upon its release, Sony initially had less enthusiasm for the game.
It’s been disclosed that Days Gone, which required considerable time, resources, and investment in production and promotion, has sold nearly 7.5 million copies as of 2023. This figure surpassed both Bloodborne and 2016’s Ratchet & Clank, and it’s expected to be around 8 million copies by now. The Remaster is likely to further increase these sales figures.
Contrary to popular belief, Jeff Ross, a key member of the Days Gone team, expressed that a sequel is unlikely due to the fact that Sony’s higher-ups like Hermen were never enthusiastic supporters. Therefore, you won’t see any news about it during the PlayStation State of Play event today or in the future.
It seems that a sequel for the Days Gone remaster will likely happen only if there’s enough demand. The game needs to be popular and sell well, and fans should express their desire for another installment. Additionally, if reports about Bend Studio’s live-service project being halted are accurate, it means they now have more resources available. Perhaps they could use this opportunity to work on a follow-up for the zombie game series?
To put it simply, if you’re eager for a Days Gone 2 sequel, show your support by purchasing the original game. Share your thoughts on social media, create videos, and engage in all forms of discussion about it. What are some of your favorite memories from playing Days Gone? It seems quite surprising that we haven’t seen a sequel to Days Gone yet, don’t you think?
