Much conversation surrounding “Captain America: Brave New World” has primarily focused on Antony Mackie’s portrayal of the character and its potential influence on the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole. In “Captain America: Brave New World,” the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) introduced Red Hulk for the first time, with Harrison Ford stepping into the role that many had eagerly anticipated. Although Red Hulk was visually impressive, his appearance didn’t ignite a desire among fans to see more of him.

Red Hulk Didn’t Blow People Away In Captain America: Brave New World

From a movie enthusiast’s perspective, I was pretty excited to see Red Hulk in action during Captain America: Brave New World. Marvel Studios hyped up the showdown between him and Captain America quite a bit. Yet, it turned out that Thaddeus Ross transformed into Red Hulk just for a single fight sequence, and his presence throughout the movie was quite limited.

Red Hulk’s character was intriguing, and the CGI was top-notch, but the way he was teased and then handled in the story left many of us underwhelmed at the end. It felt like a missed opportunity to develop such an iconic character more fully.

The lack of showing the full transformation sequence for Red Hulk by Marvel left fans disappointed. It’s uncertain if financial constraints were the cause, but the transformation scenes with the Incredible Hulk have always been captivating because they blend the human aspect with the monstrous character. Unfortunately, this was missing in Red Hulk, and as a result, he failed to generate the same enthusiasm among audiences, making it unnecessary for a standalone Hulk film in the MCU.

Marvel Studios Has Watered Down Hulk

In simpler terms, the portrayal of the Incredible Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has undergone a significant transformation from a terrifying and feared character to one that is frequently depicted as a comic relief. The choice to make Hulk more relatable by merging him with Bruce Banner has been met with criticism, as it seems to have diminished the character’s original fearsome nature. Marvel Studios now finds itself in a challenging position trying to reverse this change, which many feel was unnecessary. The internal struggle between good and evil in the character of Bruce Banner, who is the polar opposite of the Hulk, was a compelling aspect that should have been emphasized throughout the MCU, but instead, the focus has been on making Hulk appear as ordinary as possible.

In “Captain America: Brave New World,” there was an opportunity to showcase the strength and influence of the Incredible Hulk, partnered with Red Hulk. Regrettably, this wasn’t fully realized, leaving fans slightly disillusioned. The movie’s lackluster performance hasn’t helped, as it hasn’t sparked anticipation for a potential showdown between the Incredible Hulk and Red Hulk, which could have been exciting. Similarly to “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” Red Hulk seemed to only reinforce the idea that Marvel struggles to effectively utilize these characters. They should be the most formidable in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but unfortunately, that’s not currently the case. This is why there’s less enthusiasm for a Hulk film now, compared to before.

The Interest In A Hulk Film No Longer Exists With Marvel Cinematic Universe Fans

After numerous failed attempts linked to the Incredible Hulk, public interest in watching a standalone film about the character has significantly waned. Regardless if it’s a ‘Planet Hulk’ storyline or one set on Earth, the prospect of the Incredible Hulk leading his own movie is difficult to envision at this stage. Earlier, the excitement lay in watching him grow increasingly enraged and transforming into green, displaying his powers and the destruction they caused. However, that excitement no longer exists due to how Marvel has reworked the character, and unfortunately, Red Hulk didn’t manage to spark discussions about a solo Hulk film once more. This topic doesn’t seem to have been revitalized, and after so many years, it’s improbable that it will be.

There’s been talk about a film featuring Hulk alongside Wolverine, much like the pairing of Deadpool and Wolverine. Speculation surrounds whether they would form an unusual alliance or clash against each other, but it seems Marvel Studios is not confident in giving Hulk his own project to lead. Instead, it appears that Hulk thrives in a group dynamic where he can interact with others and build off their energy. This concept was hinted at in Captain America: Brave New World with the possibility of Red Hulk versus Incredible Hulk, but it never came to fruition, and it’s now doubtful that Marvel will revive this potential project.
