Unlike the films, which featured Chris Hemsworth as the mercenary Tyler Rake, this fresh Netflix installment will present a new protagonist – a seasoned mercenary embarking on a hostage rescue mission of tremendous risk in Libya.

Although some viewers might be disheartened that Hemsworth isn’t the main character in the TV series, Omar Sy is well-versed in spearheading successful productions. He has amassed an impressive portfolio, earning the César Award for Best Actor for “The Intouchables” in 2012, making him the first Black actor to win this prestigious accolade. The French actor then gained international recognition on Netflix with “Lupin”, becoming the most-watched non-English show on the platform when it premiered. In its first month alone, the series drew in 76 million households, solidifying Sy as one of Netflix’s top international talents. His achievements expanded further with three critically acclaimed seasons of “Lupin”, with the latest installment garnering 50 million viewings by January 2024.

The 2023 sequel, Extraction 2, took the franchise to new heights by extending Rake’s storyline with a mission to save a Georgian crime family.
