Summary
- Recruit shipmates like Kazami, Kenzo, Nickelle, and others in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, each with unique qualifications.
- Stock up on required items like ten CDs or Quality Components to recruit allies like Kenzo, a carpenter, or Nickelle Kidman, an actress.
- Join forces with characters like Kamulop or Lumberjack Hayashida by meeting their specific qualifications, such as obtaining Twenty Fortune Points.
For some time, the Yakuza series has been experimenting with the idea of acquiring non-affiliated allies. The most significant mini-game or side mission in the latest game, “Like a Dragon: Infinite Fortune”, allows players to amass agents much like one would gather Pokemon in that renowned series.
In the game Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, the recruitment system isn’t particularly striking, but it’s essential to gather allies to enhance Goro Majima’s vessel, the Goromaru. Initially, players are granted crew members automatically during the early stages of gameplay. However, around the five to six-hour mark, this changes as you arrive in Honolulu. From then on, players can actively recruit new shipmates, and it’s these characters that are relatively simple to unlock early on that you should keep an eye out for.
8. Kazami Evolution
Who Still Uses CDs?

- Location: Honolulu (Aloha Beach)
- Qualification: Ten CDs
On Aloha Beach in Honolulu, Kazami Evolution is a beloved rock musician by a dedicated fanbase. Gamers have an opportunity to win him over, and they’ll find that Goro, who has an affinity for rock music, is more than meets the eye – he’s actually a genuine pirate setting sail on a quest across the seven seas.
Players can enlist him only if they own ten compact discs (CDs). These CDs typically retail for approximately $30 in stores and contain a variety of content, such as individual tracks from the Yakuza series and complete soundtracks from other Sega games like Valkyria Chronicles. To prepare for recruiting Kazami, players should monitor their CD collection. If they lack enough, it might be beneficial to scour shops in Honolulu for more CDs.
7. Kenzo
A Carpenter Looking For Materials

- Location: Honolulu (Aloha Beach)
- Qualification: Ten Quality Components
Kenzo, who is a humble carpenter, can often be found lounging on Aloha Beach. Unlike the vibrant Kazami, Kenzo maintains a quiet and unassuming demeanor. He will inform players that he’s been hired to work on a nearby island called Dondoko Island.
Fans of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will recall Dondoko Island as the largest mini-game or side quest, resembling a more mature take on Animal Crossing: New Horizons. On this island, Kenzo, who is a carpenter, requires ten Quality Components to work alongside Goro. Throughout your voyages and striking debris, you should have accumulated these necessary components by now.
6. Nickelle Kidman
An Actress Looking For Experience

- Location: Honolulu (Aloha Beach)
- Qualification: 2 Star Pirate Rank
In a playful twist, Nickelle Kidman is not the real-life Nicole Kidman, the renowned Australian actress, but rather a character in the game who shares her first name. It’s intriguing that the developers chose to omit a pun on the last name as well, possibly because they felt that this fictional actress’ personality and blonde hair might not be enough to clearly convey the intended reference.
In the upcoming pirate movie, Nickelle has been offered a role. She’s keen to join the crew for some authentic pirate experience, but there’s a catch – players must advance their Pirate Rank to at least two stars. If you’ve been participating in challenges from the menu in “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii“, reaching two stars should be achievable by now.
5. Squid Hunter Kennosuke
Location: Honolulu (Aloha Beach)

- Qualification: Wild-Caught Fried Shrimp
Character Kennosuke, the Squid Hunter, could prove challenging to enlist if players are unaware of how to acquire the items they desire. You’ll find him relaxing on the outskirts of Aloha Beach. His taste buds yearn for some freshly-caught and fried Shrimp from the wild, but unfortunately, it seems that local vendors and eateries don’t have it in stock at the moment. He appears clueless about where players could start sourcing it.
It’s time for Goro to slip into his swim shorts since, right out on the beachfront, there’s a floating vendor peddling these enticing Wild-Caught Fried Shrimp in “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii”. Once he has this scrumptious treat, he can head back to Squid Hunter Kennosuke and earn himself a spot on the pirate crew.
4. Obispo
Location: Honolulu (Tropical)

- Qualification: Eat At Tropical X5
Chef Obispo is also involved in the restaurant world, but instead of being a typical player character, he owns Tropical, a popular eatery located to the north of Honolulu, near the game’s border. The objective for this side mission is quite simple: players should purchase any five drinks available on tap. These drinks are more affordable than the meals and still contribute towards the mission’s completion.
If players can no longer restore their health, they should leave the area, encounter a group of ruffians, take some damage, and then come back to purchase additional beverages. This straightforward strategy could deceive the chef into joining Goro’s gang.
3. Kamiyama
Location: Honolulu (River Street)

- Qualification: Ethereal Egesta x3
Kamiyama resides on a road named River Street, which is slightly elevated from Aloha Beach. He’s an aspiring engineer, eagerly looking forward to the opportunity to work alongside the crew in tampering with the ship. What he requires to be part of the team are three Ethereal Egesta components, and once he has them, he will join.
Although no specific instructions exist for obtaining Ethereal Egesta, players usually find it amidst the ocean debris. As they sail and explore in the open air, they should keep an eye out for hitboxes, particularly the glowing ones, as these often hide valuable loot such as Ethereal Egesta components.
2. Lumberjack Hayashida
Location: Honolulu (Fuji Street)

- Qualification: Stamina Spark
Hayashida, the lumberjack, resides on Fuji Street, not far from Revole Bar – a place central to the narrative. As the area is being transformed into a park, you’ll find him resting comfortably on a nearby bench. If he seems a bit sluggish, a Stamina Spark drink could perk him up. These drinks are widely available, though they come at a premium cost.
If team members scurry about and snatch treasure boxes in Honolulu, they could accidentally discover a complimentary Stamina Booster. No matter what happens, though, this axe-carrying combatant will prove to be an effective attacker within the group.
1. Kamulop
Location: Honolulu (Fuji Street)

- Qualification: Twenty Fortune Points
Kamulop can also be found on Fuji Street, and he serves as the emblem for the nearby shrine. Players will initially encounter Kamulop during a compulsory Side Quest named “Kamulop, Fortunes Unfolded”. Upon defeating some thugs, this Side Quest will conclude, thereby opening up the lengthier fortune hunt side mission.
In and around Honolulu, you can come across glittering golden fortune cards that have been discarded. By collecting these cards, players can accumulate points which they can then use at Kamulop’s shop. For every twenty points, a player can hire none other than Kamulop himself! This is quite remarkable as he possesses support abilities similar to Noah and shares the tiger-like characteristics of Goro. So, keep your eyes peeled for those golden fortunes if you want to recruit Kamulop as quickly as possible!
